One five second burnout won't take that much meat off lol. Did you buy those rims in the back with those tires already mounted, cuz I'm surprised the lettering is showing. Sounds decent though, looking forward to a launch...

Wish you would of told me, I have two 16" Cooper tires from Summit Racing that I spent over four hundred dollars for (over two hundred bucks a piece), and am getting rid of them for seventy five bucks for both of them...

Re: 89 Iroc - 355,twin gt35's,megasquirt

got the roof and passenger side quarter panel fully stripped.

the plan is to get the passenger door and front fender stripped and preped today ( tuesday) and if i have time start on the ds front fender

then on wensday finish stripping the other side of the car, and then head over for epoxy primer on friday/saturday

somewere in there i have to mount up me new radiator

its a 3 core champion unit but its not an fbody unit , its the same height but 3 inches less in width , should be able to pretty much drop it in i hope

Looking good. Looks like paint stripper. I hope there aren't any kids or animals around.

Have you run it at the track with the turbos?

i was sanding it originally but theres 3 coats of paint on this car and i have to have it ready for epoxy primer on friday so i switched to chemically stripping the car , its making life alot easier on me , i did just about that whole side of the car in 1.5 hours , would have taken me a whole day just to sand it

i was supposed to take the car to las vegas last week but i used the money i had set aside for that trip (6xx) miles round trip and used it for getting the car painted, i also havent goten the cage installed yet so it would have been a wasted trip anyways

ill get it out out to the track when it starts to cool off its been 105+ here for the past few weeks and going south is only going to be worse

mid fall ill prolly hit the track with it

we have unofficial drags at a local abandoned airport, so i have a decent idea of what the car runs at 16psi

but since its not official i will just say mph was high!!!!

the closest drags to me that are official is another airport drag they do like once a month down south , about a 200 mile round trip ill prolly end up going to one of those before i make it out to a real track as its a ton closer

Re: 89 Iroc - 355,twin gt35's,megasquirt

thanks to a board member on my local car forums i picked this up today for 75$'s

champion 3 core radiator and fan

Name: photo1_zpse8aaa278.jpg
Views: 129
Size: 111.1 KB

its 18.5 tall , 27 wide , and 2.5 or 3 inch thick , it was originally out of his nova but the size was close enough i figured it would work in the iroc and i was right , witht he exception of having to bend the trans cooler lines just a tad to make it fit and also trim the upper radiator hose about 2 inches

btw the champion units made for our cars ar 18.5, x 30 x 2.5 so this one was only 1.5 inch narrower

i got it installed tonight and with only a single stock fan it droped 40* out of my coolant temps , need to get a mounting kit for the fan i got with it

just got the car home
andim so friggen happy with the way the car came out , still need to block sand n etc , but with the car looks in just primer , im thinking about blocking the car 2 more coats of primer and then a matte clear to finish it off instead of the pure black spi base mixed with blue pearl , and high gloss clear

the iroc is being moved to daily driver status tommorow since i have to rip the top half of the engine off the truck and re seal it

if all goes well with the iroc for the first few days , i may attempt to gather everything i need to install the d1sc on the truck while im in there working on it

i just wish i knew 100% for sure that the stock clutch in the truck can hold upto the extra power the procharger is going to make

Highway patrol drives around town too?

Nothing like crisp body lines after a strip & prime. Have you dynoed it?

not yet nearest dyno is 175 miles away
at full boost im at 75-78% duty cycle on 65# injectors so should put down some solid numbers
i think when i swap the gt3582 turbos on i may need to upgrade the injectors

and yes hp is allowed to patrol in town, there here alot since most of the hp officers live in my town
on a typicall day we have 1 or 2 sheriffs on duty , and usually 1 hp in town
today is pioneer day , big parade and fireworks tonight etc , huge thing in this town so theres alot of cops out yesterday and today

The GT3582 is a 61.4mm comp inducer, right? You have 57mm on it now if I remember correctly.

Your dyno method is same as mine. I use the injector DC and calced BSFC to get FWHP. Track times help too. Those 57mm are a good fit. Why upgrade?

yeah 57's on it now great great match to the tpi off idle spool and all done by 5,400, car is a blast to drive, if i were to do it over i would have went with t3 .8x housings instead of t3 .63's

im ditching the tpi on the motor and going to a single plane efi manifold so that will open up the top of the rpm range for a good bit more power, when i do that the gt3582's will be a better match and prolly make 70 more hp across the board

not to mention the gain i will see from 4,800 - 6k

Re: 89 Iroc - 355,twin gt35's,megasquirt

Other than the occasional "glued compressor housing" comments, the 57 trim comp .63 A/R T3 units seem to have a decent track record.

How is the reliability of the gt3582 units? Cost is starting to climb for a china piece but still cheap for a 61mm unit. Not sure if I like the .82 T3 housing. Might as well go T4 at that point.

Yeah, no matter how much porting and mods done to a TPI intake.......I still think they are good for engines spinning less than 5200 RPM. If you can fab stuff then the single plane EFI is a good way to go. Although, I have a modded LT1 intake that works well and was cheap to do. My next intake is a single plane EFI if that tells you anything.

the reliability is the same as the 50 and 57's fasteddi has one on his car right now and it makes more power at 11 psi then he did with the 57 at 18 psi

u can get the gt3582 with a t4 housing as well i think they are 50 bucks more

seems like the prices on the turbos have been dropping ever since they started to offer the 66mm 70mm 72mm and 76mm variants

atleast the prices have dropped on the 61's and smaller the larger turbos are still up there

Car looks good, but your tune looks way off, air/fuel is all over the place. Doesn't Megasquirt have a self tuning feature for the VE and SA? Cam is pulling over 20" at idle, so it should be a breeze to tune that thing. Any datalogs you can throw up...?

was having sensor issues when i took that video , tune is pretty near dead on now just havent posted anything in a while, i also just got done putting 2 new headgaskets on the motor, as i decided to test out the nitrous tune, poped both headgaskets one between cyls 5-7 and the other between 6-8.

needless to say i wont be trying out the nitrous again for a lil while

megasquirt will self tune ve but not sa, due to the quality of gas here ive been running timing locked at 16* for right now since i cant always fill up with the good stuff around here

Post up your SA Main Table as well, I want to take a look. I was relegated to running the stock LB9 SA Main Table, which is absolute garbage, and this was because my TunerPro wasn't executing the changes that I made for some reason, would go back into the bin after a run and see that it was the same. Finally got that sorted out and she's running like she is supposed to...

i didnt get a chance to datalog it as she was running late. ill log it when i pick her up tonight at 11.

no point in posting my sa table as its 16* across the table from 2k rpms up.

ill post up the table i usually run from my other laptop though its pretty much a stock l98 table with 28* of timing from 1-9psi , 25* 7-12psi and 21-23* 13-18 psi anything over 20 psi of boost is brought back to 20*

its a pretty aggressive curve for something with that much boost and iron heads but i havent had any signs of detonation yet, it also helps that im 6,500 ft above sealevel so i can get away with a lot more sa then u can there at sealevel

I know all of that already, I asked for the SA main table because I want to see how you have them while I look at the rest of the datalog your putting up, as the point is to see why your engine is behaving the way it is. Your saying fouled plugs and low timing but I am just curious to see because it sounds like it is something else...

What ECM/PCM does ION sense?

I thought he said the fouled plugs were due to IAT being disconnected.

i thought they were fouled , at the time i didnt relie my iat was unplugged,
with the iat unplugged the ecm will see -40* air temps and throws a massive amount of fuel at the engine.

it didnt foul the plugs , it just acted that way till i got the iat plugged back in

From what I hear in the Turbo Buick world, XFI is about to release this feature. BMW and Harley Davidson already use ION sense self learning in their computer control, and I believe Megasquirt is very close to releasing it too, although it's been rumored for quite awhile with them, and looks like it's never going to happen, which is the reason why I was teasing Dave...

Hard to tell what is going in with Dave's setup, as a few months back he was convinced his cam was enormous because of the idle, but it turned out it was his injector drivers, and once fixed, idles smooth with very high vacuum...

i took the edlebrock cam out a while back its got a really tame summit cam in it now.also it dont have as much vacum as u think u need to subtract 5 inches from what u see on the gauge , at my altitude my gauges and map read 5 inches low with key on engine off, it takes 4-5 psi of boost just to get back to sea level atmosperic presure , im at an actual 6,500 ft above sea level , with the da on most days being around 7-8500

Your gauge is reading just under 25" in your video, so let's say it is 23" inches of vacuum at idle, minus 5" because of your altitude so call it 18" overall, which is still essentially stock LB9/L98 vacuum territory. This is why I want to see a datalog, can figure out quite a bit from it. Did you run the second datalog you were going to that night? Can you post it...?

stepped up the tune just a tad bit more and this thing is a total f'ing blast to street drive

though im starting to think it would make a better drift then drag car.
the power comes on smooth as hell and its very controllable, these turbos are a perfect match to a pretty mild 350/355 with tpi

Nice, gotta nickname your Camaro "Freddy" cuz it sounds like one of those BOV's you'd hear coming from Freddy Krueger's basement, sounds sweet as hell...
