ms3 has a built in afr saftey feature that u can use as well, the thing about those systems is at wot the wideband is lagging behind in its readings so by the time the system does anything it will prolly be to late
The ProEFI I saw used a fuel pressure sensor, and it actually seemed to work well. I'm not sure if it was boost cut or fuel cut, but he had the vacuum line blow off the FPR and it just slammed off with a bang. They put the line back on, and the motor didn't seem to be any worse off. I suspect that if it woudln't have been for that he would have probably eaten the engine. Was super impressed.

i was going to run a fp switch to shut down my ignition , the problem with high boost engines is at 21 psi my fp will be 64psi at idle its roughly 36 psi so in order for this to work i need a saftey switch around 32 psi .

if im under full boost and fuel presure starts to drop it has a long long way to drop before it would kill the ignition, and the engine would go massively lean long before it shut down

in this case the afr featire would shut down the engine long before a fp saftey switch

There is a simple (yet complex) fix to this, I've wanted to do it but never really got around to it. What you do is get a fuel pressure sender/FP safety switch, throw it in a piece of pipe with both ends capped up then boost reference it and feed the fuel line to it normally. By doing this you will make it to where the base FP is all that's really measured. I'm surprised no one sells one commercially. Sort of hard to describe, but I hope you understand what I'm talking about.

If you look at the way the ProEFI works I would believe it would take the MAP reference, compare it to the FP sender and then shut down based on the idea that total FP-boost level=base FP and merely trigger when the base FP dropped below a certain point. IT could even do it for boost settings based on memory theoretically, to account for any pump roll off at pressure.

Hey project89 have you got the car running? I have been reading this thread after I found out there was a twin turbo set up that hellion made for the camaros. I saw they used 2 61mm turbos for that application and I wondered how they would work on our motors. I see you got the exact set up I was thinking about lol I was asking a few local people around here a one person said if I'm planning on running low boost (6-8psi) don't do twin 61mm turbos. If its obviously working with yours why would he tell me not to run those turbos?

61's are a bit big for a pretty stockish engine, i dont have 61's on mine i have 57's and they are pretty good for a street/strip car and will support just over 1000 crank hp with a proper setup

orrocz ran a pair of 61's on his 401 engine with aftermarket heads and his car ran pretty well into the 9's

if ur engine is pretty much stock and ur using a tpi intake id go with a set of stock grand national turbos set of ta49 gn turbos or the same turbos im using

iirc the stock gn turbo is a 48mm the ta49gn turbo i want to say is 52 or 54mm but dont quote me on that as its been a long time so i cant be 100% sure on those numbers

the car is runing but unfortunatly i didnt get it finished in time to take it to the track we actually got 6 inches of snow last weekend.ive only had time to do some street driving with it, and now im about to tear the car down for a 25.x cage and a 434ci sbc with twin 66mm turbos

Re: 89 Iroc - 355,twin gt35's,megasquirt

Well just the bottom is stock that's why I wanted to go with low boost application. Top end is afr 195 eliminators, HSR intake and its cammed I know ill probly have to swap out cams for the turbo I have the xfi 268 right now. So how much should the twin 57mm support or how about the grand national turbos?

Are you gonna plan on running the car once it clears up or just go straight into stripping it down? Lol

i actually just got back in the door , wa son my way over to my friends farm to start stripping the car down but it started to snow flurry and the clouds are dark so its going to snow pretty good so i just came back home lol

i know a pair of stock gn turbos will take u into the low 10's and i think marty went 9.17 with ta49's on a bone stock engine with an aftermarket tpi base and 58mm tb. but they may have been bigger then ta49's

if it were me knowing i had a good set of heads on a stock bottom end i wouldnt turbocharge it alls it takes is one rod to let loose and a piston to slap those heads and there junk.

and as i tell most ppl if its ur first turbo build do it on a junk engine u dont care about cause u have a 50/50 to 70/30 chance of blowing it up while learning

if i were u i would pull the afrs and get a set of l98 heads if compression wont go to high or a set of 76cc heads and put them on to turbo it

a set of to4e 57 or 60 trims would be a nice match to what u have though and still work damn good on it if u put some stock smogger heads on it

id just go with stock gn turbos to start though , u can usually pick up used one's pretty damn cheap

talk to junkcltr and or ttypecamaro on these boards i know one of them has a tt iroc with a pair of junkyard t3 turbos which are pretty small compared to the t3/t4 stuff and see how well that was working out for them

though i havnt seen either of them post in a while

Alright thanks man some really good info. It would be my first turbo build and when these heads cost me 1200 bucks I would be kinda hesitant to watch out for them lol that's the whole reason I wanted low boost. I just figured food flowing top end should compliment the turbos and push me into mid 11's up here in Denver lol I really like your build tho man, props I been watching to see when you get it on the road and screaming lol

i would do a single gt45 at around 8 psi with the afrs that would make a ton of power and still be safe on the stock bottom end

granted im pushing mine in the low 20 psi range with a 100 shot of nitrous and it hasnt given up but i dont have to worry about ruining a good set of heads either if it does come part

btw i dont rember if i posted this but this was 2 weeks ago after a cam swap and trans swap still had some tunning to do

http://www.streetfire.net/video/my-t...ap_2412648.htm

and here it is after i got a lil more tuning done deff a far cry from what i started with and really cant call it a sleeper with the way it idles now lol

http://www.streetfire.net/video/my-t...ng_2412649.htm

the engine and turbo kit are going to get stuffed into my 2500 silverado over the winter if it doesnt sell on my local forums

Re: 89 Iroc - 355,twin gt35's,megasquirt

Have you seen those turbos be used? Is there a lot of lag with them? That's my main reason for wanting to do twins. Quicker spooling but still power through the whole rpm range.

For some reason my phone doesn't load the videos. Is there a YouTube version? Lol

That'll be one mean silverado tho!

Dang sounds sick man! Definitely a fan lol wish I could see it in person lol

As far as twin spooling faster I thought using twins will spool quicker and be able to provide a better HP and torque curve. If that's the case what did you notice in the difference with your twins vs the single set up

i never finished my single turbo setup, i ende dup selling off all my single turbo stuff and then building twins, the turbo i had was a massive t6 large frame turbo and took an almost 5 inch downpipe, so the twins were easier for me to fit at the time

im just happy it was the dodge and not the silverado which is also down atm , just sucks that now i have to drive the iroc instead of finish tearing it down for subframe conectors and cage

the iroc will not see the highway at all if theres any kind of bad weather , driving it threw town in the snow will be bad enough

Re: 89 Iroc - 355,twin gt35's,megasquirt

well its that time of year again, the 355 went back in the car a few months back.
the 427 is sitting on the engine stand with a set of afr 245's sitting in the box
still need a cam and intake for it, but money got tight since my job slows down once the nice weather comes . doesnt look like ill be able to finish the 427 till fall comes around.

so im hoping that sometime this week i can get the megasquirt back in the car and get it back on the road

Re: 89 Iroc - 355,twin gt35's,megasquirt

i maanged to have time this morning to run over to my friends farm and get the megasquirt back in the car. now i have a wierd problem car runs fine went to drive it home and the car randomly shuts off on me.it always refires though.

im assuming its a small wiring issue i.e loose ground or something or the relay im using to energize the 12volt supply on the fuel injectors is going bad

so ill check that stuff tommorow and if all goes well the iroc should be comming back home tommorow

Re: 89 Iroc - 355,twin gt35's,megasquirt

i worked on the iroc today well yesterday considering its 3am lol . i didnt get to bring it home as i still have a lil bit of wiring to do.

since i downgraded from megasquirt 2 to megasquirt 1 a few of the connections are slightly different, im going to head over to my friends farn soon as the sun comes up and try to get her home by lunch time.

7.5 mpg in the silverado is really putting a hurting on my wallet so hopefully i can start driving the iroc after tommorow

dual 2.5 inch open downpipes that exit behind the front tires , its street legal here

i finished it up today , reset the shifter cable and had a leak on the trans cooler line , thing was low 2 qts of fluid so thats why it was giving me issues shifting.

waiting on a friend so i can drive the camaro home and then have him take me back to pick up my truck

im working on it passenger side is cake walk it will bolt in , driverside downpipe is going to be rough going from 2.5 inch to 3 inch downpipe

the 2.5 inch downpipe i have now just makes it past the brake master , and proportioning valve

i can move the prop valve pretty easily but im going to look into a manual brake swap to make more room as im afriad the downpipe would heat up the master to much , i already had a bad experiance with a panic stop from 120 after cruising with the car for 45 mins
