Project ideas but need the winning combo

My problem is I have many options and I hate losing I have a 87 formula I'm working on I have a bbc 402 with rpm aluminum heads pretty good size cam that's the motor is all forged that I built for a pro charger set up but traded the procharger for a built short block 540 all forged and balanced I have another set of 320 cc heads that's been ported etc to go on it question is which would be a hotter set up for track days and a fun Saturday night the 402 with nitrous 2 stage it's only pushing 9 to 1 so I could also do a remote turbo as well or the 13 to 1 540 with no adders I've already spent to much on some hooker bbc swap headers and had them coated I'd love input if you guys could tell me which would be a better winner the 402 with rev to 8000 luck to get 7200 from the 540

The 540 is a tall block I have a 6 inch cowl hood it doesn't leave me too much room for a hat up top with a victor 454r intake and the 2 inch adapter plate I have weld in sub frame connectors on it but it a t top car I think a 540 with a turbo or nitrous I'd crack but I maybe mistaking and 13 to 1 is already high on the compression

compression is perfect for nitrous, ran 250 shot with 13.7 compression in a 406sbc revving to 9200. it would be your best bet

Fun saturday night with a 540 at 13 to 1? Race gas Sounds fun to me. Properly cammed with good heads, you'll make an honest 800hp. Think you need abit more head than those 320cc's to pull 7000+ on a 540 tho. But you say they are ported so how much work is done and what size is the port now? My buddy pulls 7500 with a big cam on a 496 with AFR 325 or 335 heads! Big blocks need air!

But like I said I'm going for track days as well so wouldn't the 402 with the those 335ish with a bigger cam where I could turn 8500 turbos or nitrous be fast around the track if I could keep the motor at high revs and in the upper power band ?

Re: Project ideas but need the winning combo

402 turning some RPM would be a good combination if the bottom end can handle it. 335's on a 402 will require the rpm thats for sure. 402 doesnt need quite that much head.

Being low compression makes me want to see more of a "turbo" setup than nitrous. Aluminum or iron heads? 335's on a 402 at that low compression will be rather lazy off boost or off spray. If you could do turbo, you really dont have to turn 8K rpm. Limit it to 7500 max and let the turbo do the work. Less stress on the motor this way. I'd cam it to peak near 7K rpm. Solid roller. Let it eat.

Re: Project ideas but need the winning combo

The bottom end on the 402 is a steel crank aftermarket main caps and the rods are forged rated to handle 900 horsepower all balanced with forged probe pistons and yea it's only 9 to 1 aluminum heads that are just ported to match the gasket not bowl blend in the ones that's on it now it's the rpm rectangle port edel heads they are 320 cc when I bought they are the gasket porting I don't think that'd hog them to much Probably on the low 330s
