personally... I'd stay away from NOS untill you've learned enough about it to satisfy your thoughts on whether you need it or not. I used to work in a shop and used to see so many ricers come in with their engines ruined and near the end of their life because they didnt know what they were doing and thought that NOS was cool because they had it in Fast and the Furious movies.

I think you would need to start slower. Start at 50 and then a 100 to see how things go. You may be able to run 150 when you know what you are doing but no straight off.

Also consider your engine's mileage and your wallet, once you start using it you'll have a hard time keeping that bottle full as it's addictive.

A few things to help you out:
Depending on the kit, you can most likely buy jets for other horsepower settings from somewhere like www.summitracing.com
150 hp is probably as high as I would go on a 305tpi, if not 100 hp. You will want to pull 2* of timing for every 50 hp increase, so a 150 shot would require 6* of retard. You will also need to run higher octane fuel (depending on the shot) and at least go 1 step colder spark plugs.
With nitrous, the details make or break the setup. Anyone can put a nitrous system on an engine, but setting it up properly is another story.
If you care about your engine, I would recommend a fuel pressure safety switch. This will turn off the nitrous system if your fuel pump is unable to supply enough fuel at WOT with the nitrous engaged. This is the unit I bought, just make sure it is designed for fuel injected pressure:

I will also be adding a window switch to my system, this allows you to program what rpm the nitrous is on and turns off. The nice thing about this type of setup is it will prevent accidental engagement at low RPM, and in the even of a drivetrain failure or a missed shift, it will turn the nitrous off at a set maximum RPM (no nitrous on the rev limiter)

I would go for it, take your time and do it right

I learned the hard way when I first started spraying (the 350 that came with the car turned out to be a 305) - A 150 shot is too much for a stock 305. You'll get away with it for a while, but eventually you'll hurt the motor. I was lucky and only blew a head gasket and burned up an exhaust valve, but built a nice 350 replacement anyway so I could have more fun. My setup was good, and the motor never detonated until after the head gasket blew. Cylinder pressures are just too much for a stock 305 on a 150 shot.

If the motor & nitrous system are set up properly, including fuel, ignition, plugs, etc, then you should be able to run a 125 shot without too many problems. Stick with 100 shot if you're looking for longevity, and at a bare minimum use a fuel pressure safety switch, pull out 2* of timing for each 50hp of nitrous shot, read your plugs after evey pass to tune, and get off of the button at the first hint of detonation.
Now go have fun because juice is addictive. You'll be looking for that 350 with forged intenals in no time!
