New: 11 sec ETs from sunday

Ran a 11.7 @ 116 at Island Dragway this past Sunday 1.7 60 foot on 245 radials. best 60 of the day was 1.6. all launches were pretty much off idle.

All three passes were in 11's. Car was downtuned. I was running 10lbs of boost, 4 lbs less than I dyno'd the motor with.

with some traction and some cogs or an 8 rib to fix my blower belt issue so i can run full boost, i think 10's is possible. this was the first timeo out with this motor.

car is street trim, stock suspension with poly bushing and boxed lca's

Re: New: 11 sec ETs from sunday

the dyno was engine dyno, but only up to 5,300 rpm and only a conservative 28 degree total advance. more rpm and a little timing would have put me over 700 flywheel no prob. the torque was 600-650 flat the whole time....

the 1/8 was 7.549 at 92.56, crappy 1.7 60 ft on radials. thoughts?

i'l see if i can post a vid, but i always have trouble uploading to this site

always makes me resize pics and stuff. i hate that.

i know there is some more power. that was only 10lbs boost... engine was dynoed at 14 lbs.... i also had a car full of tools, base subs, gas and electric seats on this run lol.... so better launch, more boost and take the crap out of the car i could approach 10's.

oh yeah i forgot, i was short shifting at 5,000 - 5,500 rpm and launching at only like 800-1000 rpm.....no traction on th radials

More boost on the launch, and a better converter. I was running a TCI 3500 stall speed, then switched to a PTC 3000 stall speed, and my sixty foot improved tremendously. If I launch at 10 to 12-psi I will see a 1.4x sixty foot... if it doesn't blow the tires away.

Your going to love it when you do! I didn't realize how badly I was blowing through the TCI converter until I changed it, now the damn thing spools so freaking quick, and first gear with the 700R4 feels so damn good...

Re: New: 11 sec ETs from sunday

how heavy is your car? i think you may be experiencing some belt slippage at the track... 92mph sounds like your down on power. i would think your car should hit up near 100ish. 60' should come around with some work, but im thinking your mph should be higher. noticed any black powder on the front of the engine?

Car is probably 3700 with me in It and all the stuff.

There is black belt dust everywhere. I think I am slipping. I just posted another post asking if anyone knew how to hook up an 8 rib. I have the blower pulley but I need a crank pulley that is 8 rib. Someone said lt1 pulley. The 5 or 6 rib sucks.

Anyone ever make one of these into an 8 rib? Where did u get cram pulley?

will most likely be pulling an LT1 pulley set off of a car soon, but not sure if they would work with your setup. im sure the blower one would. its a 2.75 upper, 6.25 lower if i remember right. not a big boost setup.

can you please take measurements of the crank pulley? might help me out. I can pick one up if its the right ssize. it basically has to be the same diameter of a stock serpentine 88-92 crank pulley. if it isnt as deep thats ok....

My GTA is 3650 with me in it, have a D1SC procharger @ 15lbs of boost (8 1/2 to 1 comp.), ran a 10.73 @ 129 with bouncing off the rev limiter on the 1,2 shift, be careful with your 700R4 transmission, I've been told by many people that they can't take the abuse that a turbo 400 can, even if it has the best of the best parts in it. Good luck and keep us posted.

I thought about a Turbo 400 awhile back, but I just can't get myself to like the pull that I get in first gear with the 200R4's 2.74 gear, and the Turbo 400's 2.48 will be worse for my application. If the 700R4 ever does go on me I will definitely have it rebuilt to withstand mega horsepower, or just buy a beefy aftermarket version, but so far so good though, knock on wood...

Even with the best of the best parts, which I'm taking my transmission builders word. http://www.tsiracing.com/ He told me a 700R4 is only good up to 550 to 600 horse depending on how hard you want to push it, anything over that, a person would want to get something stronger like a Turbo 400 that would be able to withstand more power.

I hear what your saying, but there are aftermarket 700R4's out there that can handle a lot of power, the Level 5 Raptor 700R4 is definitely one of them, rated at 1000-HP. We'll see though, as right now my stock one isn't showing any signs of abuse just yet...

I asked him about that transmission, the reponse I got was ratings are like pre-election poles, they don't mean anything till the election is over. Just my 2cents.

That saying honestly goes for everything. The new GT-R's are factory limited to under 3000-RPM launches, and the warranty is void if the buyer goes over that and breaks something. In fact, the 2009 models were recalled because they were accidentally set for 4000+ bonzai blasts, and they were quick to correct that. But so far, owners have been launching at 4000+RPM, and they are holding just fine, with no signs of damage (not all of them, of course). In the end though, all parts will inevitably succumb to enough horsepower in time, and after constant abuse, but I digress...

Re: New: 11 sec ETs from sunday

i dont think the case itself would handle 1000hp on a decent leaving car, much less the internals. odds are pretty good you will wind up with an ultra high dollar 700r4 that is broken. i would go with a built 4l80e if you have that kinda cash and want overdrive.
remember a decent converter is going to run you around $900 or more, so that has to be added to the cost of the trans.
personally, with 1000hp, i would probably run a th400 with a 3.42 gear or whatever. that would still be completely streetable.

Nice.. when you say 245 radials, what tires specifically? I'd be pretty happy with 1.6x!

zz3 astro.... I used Nitto 245/50/16. they were 555R drag radials. they were at 26lbs of air pressure and a cold track. it was a soft launch, i'm sure i could have went 1.5 but this was the first time out. i launched at like 1000 rpm. (i have a 3000 stall)

1.48 is nice. which DRs did he use?

Its not so much the HP that breaks drivetrain parts, its Torque that breaks things. Comaparing small cube high revving engines that may make the same HP as a larger lower revving higher torque engine is apples and oranges.
Just something to consider when talking about how much HP some trans will or wont handle.

I was in a rush. The nittos are good but nitto has a newer drag radial. It's like a 501 or something. The mts are better but not good on street. If I had a wider rim I would get the 275/45/16 DRs

Definitely. Once you get that sixty foot down to the 1.50 area, you should see much closer to 100-mph at the 1/8th, and over 120-mph in the 1/4, along with that ten second slip, with all things being the same of course, well, maybe with a tad more boost...

Congrats! Definately has more left in it.

700r4 is suppose to be similar to the 4l60e and i know some guys running rpm motorsports built 60e's into the high 8's at near 160 mph in blown latemodel vettes

I don't have near the track knowledge most of you have, but 11's on an untuned engine with 10 pounds of boost sounds pretty darn quick to me...your 60ft times don't sound horrible either.

A buddy of mine I work with took his Techo blown Challenger to the track a few times recently with DR's and a hop-not kit (Dodge thing)...and he could only muster 2+ second 60 ft times...but he has a 6 speed manual and only a lowly 500 HP at the wheels...he did a best of 12.4 at 114.

You have more on the table to come!
