Fuel pump options

Im just curious if anyone has tried adapting the aeromotive phantom dual 340 to a factory tank. Seems like an easy way to get the needed fuel for my setup

Re: Fuel pump options

I know guys are getting 340's and 400's into 4th gen tanks as the opening is larger. It could be tight in a 3rd gen tank but with proper line size and injectors, that would be 1000-1200 whp fuel system depending on tranny

Re: Fuel pump options

Well the phantom series you cut the hole larger. And use their sending unit and everything. Id just have to get a different fuel level sender. I have to get a new tank anyhow. Ill look into a 4th gen tank and see what i can find on them

Re: Fuel pump options

Thanks for the heads up on the 4th gen tanks. Ive got one on the way. Im gonna do dual 340's with -8 line. That should be plenty for my small block and s480 combo with the 4l80

Re: Fuel pump options

They swap in pretty easily. Just have to convert the 4 wire sensor off tank to the thirdgens 3 wire connector on the body. Need a grand am sending unit from mid 1990's i think. I just finished my second 4th gen tank swap lol i forget the part numbers already.
Then just need the plastic type AN conversion quick disconnects and its ready to go

Re: Fuel pump options

Dual 340LPH Racetronix units fit with relative ease in the 4th gen fuel tank sending unit. You will want the additional capacity if making serious power anyways. I used a -8 bulkhead 90° and I used the stock feed as a return. I trimmed out the factory return port and plugged the hole with seal-all. I decided to do away with the wiring bulkhead as the contacts were pretty small anyways. I passed the wires through where the tank pressure sensor was installed, and I sealed it with a combination of seal-all and shrink wrap.

Re: Fuel pump options

I remember reading about the 4th gen tank swap, do they really bolt right in? What about the filler neck? I'm running a single Stealth 340 pump with -8an feed and return and am running out of fuel at 12psi on E-85. I know fitting a second pump can be a pain in a 3rd gen tank, so just weighing the options.

Re: Fuel pump options

They bolt in but you need to shorten the filler neck hose they come with by about 1.5-2" or so. Work great.
Then gotta connect the 4 wire tank harness connector to the thirdgen 3 wire body plug. These adapters can be bought from racetronix

You need a sending unit for thirdgen gauge. Believe its just a 97 grand am unit for 80-100$ i think. Have to check my last rockauto purchase for that. Plugs right in

Re: Fuel pump options

Cool thanks Justin. I might just have to try that if I get frustrated with changing around my third gen tank a second time.

Re: Fuel pump options

Had not plan on revealing this till we were a little further along but we a working on a new double pump setup for Thirdgens. We will also be doing a single pump version. Will work with -an or stock fuel line and they will come with a hot wire kits.

The creator of these has done a couple of double pumper setups based on stock hanger setups for some TTA's we have built in the past but these will be all new. This is the Gbody version.

Re: Fuel pump options

Nice looking set up, when do you think the double pump setup for Thirdgens will be released?

I hope to have the prototype done this month and installed for testing. So by the end of summer is the current schedule.

What's the point of putting the stock filter socks inside the bucket if you've removed the stock venturi pump? Might as well stuck them through the bottom of the bucket in the location of the fuel sock pickup for the venturi pump.

They pretty much bolt in, you need to shorten or replace the filler neck hose from the 4th gen tank (most junkyards will cut them so you'll need to replace it), bend the mouning bracket slightly and screw it to the pinch seam in the 3rd gen to support it. Past that you need to adapt the plumbing which isn't that big a deal and the wiring/fuel level sender

Whatever happened with this? Can they be purchased?
