Boosting a 165 tune?

Can I practically and reliably boost with a 165 tune?
Enriching for load, a boost referenced ignition box etc...?
I know there's the 749 stuff but I'm just getting the hang of PROM tuning with my combo.
I'm sooo computer savvy I can barely believe that I'm posting anything at all... lol
My MSD coil burnt down last spring and almost cost me my car and my garage...
Since then everything has been mothballed, but I wanna throw some boost into this car (not big boost, just 5-7lbs) so give me some opinions....

Re: Boosting a 165 tune?

I'd recommend going with the EBL Flash which will convert you to Speed Density while maintaining your factory harness. If you want to maintain the stock ECM though, then just go the same route that the Grand National guys do; swap your MAF sensor for an LT1 MAF sensor w/MAF translator and then get larger injectors. Your '165 tune will stay intact, you would just need to tune for larger injectors which is a breeze, but the translator and upgraded MAF sensor will compensate for the needed boost fueling...

Yes you can by upgrading the maf and tuning it for the higher flow numbers and working on the spark tables and pe and ae and such. Im even running my intercooler pump off modified egr controls

Is the MAF swap and MAF translator a plug and play fix?

Takes rewiring the ecm connector. Movec1 wire to a different pin

Few changes need to be made, but overall I would say yes. Remember that Grand National's do not use a MAP sensor, the stock 2 Bar MAP sensor was only used for the boost gauge in the cluster. Make the switch to a larger LT1 MAF which can be had for very cheap nowadays, upgrade your injectors based on the horsepower you are looking to make, then tune the base settings in the prom (injector size, spark, etc.)...

Re: Boosting a 165 tune?

Put a piece of pipe in parallel with the MAF and tune. You lose resolution just like a Xbar map loses resolution. So, the bigger the pipe the more resolution loss. Just like a 3bar map has worse resolution than a 2bar.

Re: Boosting a 165 tune?

If you end up going 730 and speed density let me know and I'll get you a turbo bin to use for free. You'll just need to alter it for your trans/displacement and tune.
