How much boost, HELP

How much boost can I run on my set up?? (see sig) I am planning on an ATI Procharger self contained unit w/ the 2 core intercooler. I have 9:1 compression and my cam has a 114 degree lobe seperation. This will be on my daily driver, and I can't afford to blow up the engine right now but I want as much power as possible. Please answer ASAP, I need this baaad!! Thanks for the help

i would not go with more than 5lbs you will be lucky to run pump gas with 5 and 9:1 compression

i dont know the equation but there is one to figure out compression ratio with boost but i think about 8lbs would give you 12:1 compression and 5 would give you around 10:1

Thanks for the help. I always run 92 octane gas so if I run 5 or 6 pounds of boost aprox. how much H.P. should that give me?? Also what if I sometimes run race gas or octane booster, could I run a little more boost at these times??? Thanks again.

I've always heard you can count on a 30% increase for every 5 lbs.

Me personally, with fuel injection I would never run anything less than 92-93. You'll do 5# on 92 with no problems.........if you decide to go 10# plan on a boost restard. Hope it helped.

Yes, that did help thank you. I was looking at the boost retard box by MSD. So you think if I get this I can run more boost? How much boost should my lower end hold up to? Or how much untill I blow a head gasket?? Sorry for all the questions, but this is a lot of money to spend and I want to know all the facts. Thanks again!!

It sounds like you have a fairly solid motor. If I remember right those heads are iron. If I'm right I probably wouldn't go any more than 12# of boost and I would jump up the injector to 24# maybe even 30's .if you haven't already. And have a prom burned by some body experienced with boosted applications. Keep in mind, everything I'm telling you is a safe range. I know of people in my area that are pushing over 15# of boost, but are having troubles every once in a while.

stocroc,

You can safely run 9#'s of INTERCOOLED boost on a stock 9.3:1 comp.on 92+ octane (according to ATI), as long as your ignition system and fuel system are up to snuff, without any ignition retard.

Both the ATI and Vortech kits include a in-line fuel pump and FMU, to supply you with the much needed pressure and volume of fuel.

Be sure to monitor your oxygen sensor voltages to prevent you from going lean. .800 to .900mv would be ideal.

Right now my set-up is pullied for 10#'s boost and i have had no problems (knock on wood). and i will be moving up to 12#'s this spring.

later
