power chips, a good idea?
I have a 87 IROC with the 5.7L TPI engine. I was wondering if a power chip is a good idea with this car. What kind of power increase will I be looking at? How much money will I be looking at? What kind do you recomend getting? Any comments will be helpfull.

HP= 5 MAYBE
Money= About $170 (hyperjunk)
Worth it? Hell no. It was the bigggest waste of money I have spent. Advance the timing a bit and put a cooler thermostat in and you just did basically all the chip will do.

I picked up .5 sec and 3mph with a $70 SLP chip, my car had headers,exhaust, CAI, 160 stat, the SLP chip dropped my coolant temps 20* to 200*, don't know if it helps as much on a car with stock exhaust.
The SLP chip beat my stock chip by .7 sec and 6 mph with above mods and a cam, 1.6 RR, and siamesed base.
I wouldn't get a hyperjunk or Jet chip though, try fastchips(ed Wright) I heard they're usually worth the money.

Instead of buying a power chip, let me do this.
Give me 170$.
I will raise your fuel pressure 2 PSI, and advance your timing.
I will then kick you square in the nuts, giving you everything and more that an off the shelf "performance" chip will.
