Is this turbo rebuildable?

I found a turbo in a junkyard today, got it half way pulled off, and then started wiggling the propellers around. The intake propeller spins freely and doesn't wobble, but the exhuast side wobbles all over the place, BADLY. when you turn one propeller, the other does not turn. I can still get the thing really cheap, like $25 bucks, i'm just wondering if it's rebuildable.

Almost all turbo's can be rebuilt, but like with blocks or cylinder ehads, there becomes a point where it's probably cheaper to buy a new one rather than rebuild it.

It sounds like the shaft on that turbo must be broken if you can spin the compressor wheel, and the turbine wheel doesn't spin. The wobbling you mentioned is also indicative of this. If that's truly the case, you're looking at a new shaft, new turbine, new bearing section, and possibly an new turbine housing if it got scored and damaged from the turbine wheel.

Umm...

I know for a super charger rebuilt kit for a basic supercharger it is about 400 dollars. I think it would be about that for your turbo.

Good luck

Depends on what kind of turbo it is. If the housings are still good but the cartridge is shot you can pick up T3 cartridges on ebay for $125 or so.

stockroc,
EDIT: I need to start reading peoples posts better. The problems i'm having right now is that wiring harness is hacked all to hell. The whole car is pretty much gutted right now sitting in my garage, and we're trying to rebuild the harness. I have a feeling we're gonna end up buying a new one though.

Back to the turbo, i talked to a guy today that "claims" he can make me a new shaft. I think i'm gonna go ahead and pic it up this weekend, it's out of a Mitsubishi Starion BTW. It's not very big at all, but it's going on this beat to sh*t old camry my friend has. The car is worth about $130 bucks so we figured it would make a good learning project for me and my friends. It runs good, but the body and interior are disgusting. I'm sure i'll be here asking a million questions here in the next few weeks about the install...

Eric

One of the best places I have found that carries most of the Mitsubishi turbo applications is Texas turbo Rebuils http://www.turbochargers.com Just give them a call they can work with you on all the aspects of the turbo you are looking at and their prices are acctually pretty good.
