Is there any way to change my user name w/out losing my post count?

This was asked a while ago, and I don't think you can. I had wanted to change mine a while ago, but everyone knows me by this now.

Yeah you can't do it. The only way to get a new user name is to sign up under a new one.

I'm surprised an administrator can't do it. Because under user options for mods and admins, the user's stuff like posts and sigs can be changed and there's even a text box for the user name.

It can be done. You have to ask Dirk.

How easy is it for him to change? I mean, I'm one of hundreds of members. I don't know Dirk, but he probably won't even reply. He sure doesn't owe me any favors.

Why care about post count? I mean I could see if you're one of the post-just-to-post guys like a certain fan of a certain muffler but postcount is meaningless, just make a new account, quality vs quantity anyway.

Yeah, the whoring does get pretty ridiculous sometimes. But we all do it pretty much, some just more than others... 6000 times more than others for a certain member

Now see I gotta jump in on this one.

I'm now under a new logon name. I don't want/need people knowing more info about me than they already do. That's why I chose to change.

But to say post count doesn't matter is incorrect. I've posted many helpful posts since I've changed names and since I'm now a "Member" instead of a "Senior Member" and have less than 100 posts, everyone assumes that I know absolutely nothing.

Everyone thinks Mark is an expert because he has damn near 10K posts!!!!!! Granted he does know what he's talking about because he only posts a response if he does know, but since I haven't posted a lot, people think they're "better" than I am, or know more. But I'm the same way as Mark. I only post what I KNOW!!!!

Also, I'm one who tries to teach someone why, not just give a yes or no answer. Others critisize me for that. They say my posts are "a lot more info than what's needed." Sorry, but I always liked the "Give a man a fish..." fable.

OK. I just realized I'm babling now!!!!! But to say that post counts don't mean much is not true, at least IMO.

Post counts do matter, but after getting 10k, it is all the same.... I would like to change my name, and I guess I should because I am not sure what people think of me, but I really don't care. I just came up with a better name is all.

Oh and giving more info than is needed, just because one person doen't need all that info doesn't mean that somebody else might not need it.

Yeah you guys have a point, people with like 20 posts don't get much respect. But then once you have 11000, does it really matter? Or even me with 3200.. its enough for me. I dunno, I guess I just don't see why some people seem to "compete" for more posts.

Must be my competitive nature to be #1.
