somthing is wrong with the view count.
i know most boards have problems with the view count, and everyone isnt always counted, but right now, 90 -100% of all new posts have zero views.... its not counting ANY of them anymore.

As ede has mentioned, the reply and view counts aren't displayed in real time. They are counted, though, and mass updated at a set time/function. I've mentioned it a few times and likely why

However, there appears to be a problem (or a change) as several threads going back to about the last 2 or days haven't shown the updated counts. That's not normal for this board. I'm not sure how Dirk and Iroc have it setup, perhaps it is setup as a cron job on the server and it is just not running lately? I could be wrong as probably Dirk and Iroc are the few people who know exactly how it's setup, because I don't think this version of vB had the delayed reply/view counts as an option yet, but rather it was a hack, so it could be setup a few different ways.

just pointing out that its not working at all... for the past couple days.
goto the main form page: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/index.php
and click the view new posts link..... you'll see that all new posts are at zero views, and older posts stopped adding them days ago.
i was just pointing out the board bug because it could be the result of another, more serious problem that i dont have the access to look into.

I'm sure Dirk and Iroc will get it resolved. I could be wrong, but I doubt it's serious. Older thread counts are still showing what seems to be valid data and no one is reporting the famous "there seems to be a slight problem with the database" error message that vB throws out, so the database doesn't seem to be corrupt. It just might be with their method of moving the temporary data (view counts) to the 'public' view counts table. I'm not an expert, just have a some experience. Only Dirk or Iroc will have a better understanding since it is something more TGO specific and they can work on the other side of things.
I'm sure the admins appreciate it being pointed out. Can't be too safe. But I'm sure they'll get it fixed.

It's like that to be easier on the server.
Don't like it but what can you do?
Don't like it but what can you do? But there was a problem earlier, right? The counts weren't updated for days, that's not normally how TGO's been updating those counters? It seemed hourly or so. Or maybe you guys changed it to longer periods of time. I understand that not having the counts 'live' helps ease the server's load by mysql not read/write table locking as much and causing other mysql processes to backup, atleast not for a trivial counter. Atleast that's my understanding, and that is what I seen first hand on the forum I administrated, before I applied the delayed thread view hack. I'm no expert, and I'm sincere when I say that.
Anyway, it seemed to return to normal (normal for TGO as not displayed 'live', but updated at a set time) yesterday evening.
Honestly, no problems or attacks intended. Because I've worked with vB, php and mysql, I do have a partial interest. good job to you guys as I know running a forum and a server is work, especially one of this size.

I noticed it seems longer too. I will ask Dirk if he changed it when I get the chance.
