choppy?

I dont know the past few days this site has been very choppy. Like the typing/highlighting/scrolling part. I will try highlighting words and its delayed?

Backspacing and it takes awhile, holding down a letter and it waits a few seconds then all the letters show up. I checked my personal preferences for this computer and all seem to be fine, and its this site only other web sites i am not having this problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Try changing to a different editor. Go to "User CP", click "Edit Options", and then scroll all the way down to the bottom. If you're using the "Enhanced Interface", try switching to the "Standard Editor".

EDIT: This will only help with problems you might be having with the editor. If you're having problems scrolling and highlighting on a static page then that is a problem with your computer, not this site.

I would say it sure sounds like a local (computer) issue. I do not experience such freezes, and I use FireFox with a few plugins, so I would think the problem would be more likely for me if it was a site related issue with the editor. I tried the Enhanced and Standard and all appeared fine.

Sounds like something may be hammering your CPU. Open up the task list and look for any program taking a considerable amount of CPU percentage when you experience the issue.

eh...i tried both of what you guys told me and no change. This is really starting to get annoying. I watched my CPU usage as i typed and backspaced and it was like 90-100%...when like loading a different page used half that. I dont know whats up there is plenty of memory on my computer. Im thinking i accidently hit some combination of keys that changed a setting but i have no idea what! err

Thanks for the help guys.

Have you messed with or updated your video card drivers recently?

No offense, but I wouldn't call 256MB of RAM "plenty or memory." The box I'm using now has 2GB and I run out from time to time... You should consider tossing in a 512MB stick or something, especially if you're using Windows XP, as it will really speed up your computer.

Anyway, what was your page file usage like when the site was slow (open "Task Manager", click the "Performance" tab, the appropriate number is the one labeled "PF Usage")?

What version of Windows are you using (please go to "Start > Run" and type "winver", the version will be something like "Version 5.1 Build 2600.xpsp.050622-1524 Service Pack 2")?

Finally, what browser are you using (click "Help > About", it should say something like "Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4" or "Internet Explorer version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp.050622-1524")?

Nothing was changed before you had problems. Changes were made on the 5th but that was a full 24 hours after you reported problems.

Back to your computher though, since you're running Windows XP, I'd recommend picking up some more memory for that thing. You'll really find yourself being a lot more productive when using it.

It's been doing this for weeks now and I can't figure it out. CamaroZ28.com uses vBulletin 3.5.4 too and I don't have these problems on that site, only thirdgen.org. What can it be? This is really bothering me...

Do you have FireFox? If so, you might give it a try. I have found that FireFox doesn't display this issue like IE does on some machines. I know it isn't a proper fix, but it appears to work.
