Hey guys, I just fixed my rotting floor pans. I found out that they rotted because the P.O fed his subwoofer wire from the battery through a hole in the firewall that normally had a plug in it. I saw the water trickle down directly to the spot that I just put fresh metal in. While I was under there I saw some questionable wiring that I'm wondering if it is even original or was it all part of his sound system.




is the white connector, red and blue inline fuses, and little red connector original or part of a sound system set up?




these relays say apex so I'm assuming they were for a sound system but would like to double check, they have two blue wires that run into the part in the next pic.




here's where the apex relays wire into, this is directly behind the driver's side kick panel. what is this?

 

While I have no idea what is bolted behind your kick panel, I can say for sure that none of the rest is original.

 

thanks, that cleared up the birds nest of wires I want to get rid of but now I am unsure of what to do with the part behind the kick panel since those relays are wired to the part. I feel like that part is original but I could be wrong.

 

Last pic looks like the power doorlock relays, I may be wrong.

 

its possible since I do have power locks,

 

Disconnect them & verify it.

 

Will do tomorrow after work, also read that it could be a starter enable relay but I've always read that these cars don't have a starter relay

 

Sounds like a vats thing, Possible.

 

It's an 86, I thought vats didn't come around till later years

I pulled a dealer installed alarm out of my 89 that had a similar connector and pair of relays taped together in that same fashion (same brand, too...).

This would make sense because this car did have an alarm system in it, pretty sure the manual said "viper system" on it but it never worked so I removed the alarm siren thing

 

Wow that settles it then, thank you for the pic. I'm guessing that the door lock relay is wired into the two apex relays which are for the alarm system then.

 

Possibly, those two Blue wires look like they don't belong there.

 

Here's some info for testing. You should invest in one of these manuals! it's specifically for 86 Firebirds.

Yep all the wires look exact, I'm assuming they removed the actual system and just left the harness in the car. Going to tackle that next once I fix my passenger floor pan

 

He was probably using the alarm to unlock the doors.Hence, the blue wires to the DL relays.

Well after scoping it out today you guys are all 100% correct as usual, thanks for the help. Unfortunately removing all that is gonna have to wait, didn't expect to see this when I pulled the carpet up


Once I cut this out and weld the new pan in and sealed and get my new carpet and interior installed I will remove all that junk. Thanks again
