Hello everyone , im new to the site. Just picked up an 87 sport coupe 305,t-top,5spd figured id start a build thread as ill be tearing this sucker down and rebuilding it piece by piece ill have plenty of pics so far the steering column is loose as a goose has a nasty tapping noise in the motor and it smells like 30yr old mcdonalds but...ive already got a new gm goodwrench 350 sitting on the stand waiting for transplant

well after thinking it over im gunna go full steam right away and tear into the front end of this thing so buckle up!

bumper support and radiator out next , exhaust manifolds, motor mounts and bell housing bolts

 

 

every night breaking it down slowly. Labeling parts,wires,bolts

 

its been a long day but the motor is out!

im thinking i might want to scrap this whole front end and start off new .its just a little to tattered to make look decent at this point




this is the 350 ill be putting in the car ive had this engine for about two years now, im glad i inally have a car to put it in

 

ok its been quite a while since ive had any progress on the camaro , ive been putting my truck back together and its been on the back burner.last week i came across an 87 rs with a blown motor for 500 ,it had all the ground effects and interior i wanted as well as a working steering column! so i picked it up

 

this new car got me going on my camaro again and ive been putting in some wrench time
got the column apart tightened the damn tilt bolts that had come loose then swapped over anything that was in better shape in the cockpit

 

by the time the weekend rolled around i was getting the engine shoehorned into this bucket clutch is rated to 450hp

 

 

sunday swapped over the ground effects, no easy task..

 

 

Looks like it came with a 82 to 84 Z-28 hood and now you have a flat top hood on the new one.

Are you going to use one of those.
I like the filter assembly but looks a little tall for ether one.

 

ya i like the air cleaner too but i like the z28 hood better, im gunna try and find a cool old air cleaner to substitute ,something a little shorter

 

$500 parts car...that looks like a great score.

well its been a while since my last update
was out of work for 3 months which put a damper on my budget for this car. im back to work on the car now , im moving to bodywork now stripping the paint,fixing some blemishes
and getting it into primer while the weather is still mild here in NE
florida

 

 

 

some small dents here and there,overall not too bad for a 30yr old camaro

your typical gas pump dents on the driver side door, again not too bad

 

BONDO it makes dents disappear! just add sandpaper and beer

some of these dents fell on the body line fun fun

 

 

original color was red but im going with a bright silver i think

 

 

 

 

 

Interesting. I haven't seen that repair product before.

 

Last I looked, Bondo is a subsidiary of 3M. Potentially that may make it a better product line. In theory anyway. 3M's bumper repair products work OK, but from the few projects I've attempted with it, everything has to be perfect and in some cases it's not the most structural repair.
