drove to work in the pouring rain. I really enjoy driving my 3rdgen.

 

Did a filter and fluid change on the trans, got my fans back operating the way they are supposed too. Love the way she shifts compared to before.

 

it was a very chilly wet morning. I got to use my heater for the first time. it worked well. love a job well done. I was warm with pride.

 

Finished mechanical refresh. When I bought the car in February, it was pretty much original, unopened. 29 years and 117,000 miles ago. Hoping to change only what was needed to get it running right. Ended up doing everything chasing one problem or another. Yesterday, powertrain ran perfect. Last problem solved. Time for a break and pay down some debt.

 

stopped at Walmart to get something for dinner and as I was leaving a group of younger kids standing next to their little lowriders started looking as I drove by. one of them yelled "tight firebird". made me grin.

I changed the passengers side power window motor. Then changed the fuel pump/sending unit so I now have a functional fuel gauge

 

I'm starting to have an intermittent issue with the passenger headlight. if I hit the headlights right when I start the car the passenger side doesn't want to come up. if I dive a block or so and hit the lights they both pop up fine. are they electric motors with vacuum assist? it seems like its a vacuum issue.

spark plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotor all got replaced. as well as cleaned the M.A.F.

 

Yes sir, I did. Had to buy the entire HVAC unit, just to get the ****. $60. Makes me wish I had waited, but the radio **** had to go. Thanks for hooking me up, though.

I redid my dry erase garage project board for the firebird. most of the projects on the list had been crossed through so I cleaned it up and made my list cleaner and easier to follow. looks like I have headlight hi beam switch, headlight vacuum issue, noise in the rear end, seatbelt retaining loop. not a huge list really. the noise in the rear end concerns me though. when I'm sitting at a stop and hit the gas to take off any faster than a crawl it sounds like a "snap"! maybe a broken shock or shock mount? something seems like its moving when it shouldn't be.

 

U-joints???

 

I'm hoping to crawl under it today and check the shocks, shock mounts, u joints , trans mount, basically everything under there to see whats moving before it becomes a problem.

took it out, I'm having the elastic on my overhead console replaced while it's out so I'm not sure when it's all going back in, probably gonna be a 2 man show getting it back in

Got my insurance papers today, so I'm all set to go to the DMV Monday morning & get my '89 registered & on the road. 'Bout time.

Got new headlights, fog lights, grille & a new under hood insulation pad all set to go Monday, when I get the car home.

It was a very nice day today so I thought I would detail my truck and the Camaro. Not sure if anyone else uses Ammo NYC products but the Ammo Reflex (nano coating) and Ammo Skin made my paint look like glass. I highly recommend it.

Plasti dip the coolant reservoir today... Till I get a new one to replace it, was looking really faded. Figured a quick change for now. Cheers from Toronto.

 

haven't done any work to mine in a while. ive been driving it daily and its doing well. there are a few things that need to be done before the bead weather is here to stay. new wipers, seatbelt guide fell off, battery strap, cherry bomb muffler. so that's coming soon.

 

I refinished the rear pannels and put in new door pannels. I'm not happy with my homemade speaker covers. If anyone has a set for sale hit me up.

 

lifted up motor and changed out a dented oil pan and gasket. gonna start putting exhaust back in tomorrow with new gaskets.

 

Had a fuel delivery issue I've been chasing for a few days. Traced it to clogged injectors. Being that the car is 28 years old, I replaced all of them. Road testing the car, I discovered a broken transmission mount. At least I got throttle response.

 

I'm shopping online for brighter direct replacement headlights. so far it looks like Sylvania has some decent lights. anyone used them?

 

Front and rear sway bar bushings and links.


Swapped out the 30 year stuff for energy suspension poly bushings.

 

finished replacing oil and transmission pan gaskets, gonna set ups and fire it up in the am and check for leaks

 

Deadened the front doors by spraying rubber against outer skin and sticky-mat on the inner door panel. Ready for 6.5" speakers. Got the power mirrors working after eons. Got into the mirror switchpad big time. Took it all apart, cleaned the contacts, bent the tab fingers around, repaired the burnt board. Geez. But it was worth it in the end. Got cool OEM power mirrors.

 

Fixed a dodgy stereo connection which only allowed me to have all speakers working whilst turning left...

 

Why bother? Just keep making left turns when a good song comes on!
