700r4 lock up

While installing a new transmission in my 89 Camaro, I noticed the 4 pin plug was in pretty bad shape, so I got a replacement. While stripping the blue wire to connect to the new plug, it pulled out of the harness, and I cannot figure out where it went. Please Help

I thought you meant when it pulled out, that it pulled out of the transmission plug so I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. It pulled out of the harness in what way? Completely? Broken half way? Was there a connector on the end that pulled out of the harness?

Re: 700r4 lock up

It appears to be a dead end wire, except that it has about 1/16" stripped off the end. It pulled out of the harness very easily, but It had to go to something, I just can't find it.

Computer controlled torque converter clutch or old school via the brake switch, vacuum switch?

Re: 700r4 lock up

Your signature says Northstar engine. Any other details? With the year of the chassis and C100 bulkhead/firewall connector it wouldn't be too difficult to find a wiring diagram that will give the wire colour and function of the blue transmission wire. There is more than one possibility so some specifics are needed.

Re: 700r4 lock up

I don't know how in the hell Northstar got in there, but I've corrected it now. Actually, this is my neighbor kid's car I'm working on, it's just a little 89 Camaro with a 406 450 hp with the 700r4, and an 8.5 inch 10 bolt with 3.73's

Re: 700r4 lock up

With an 89 chassis there are a few engine wiring diagrams depending on the original engine. Two diagrams show a light blue wire to the transmission.
Keep in mind too that with all of the years and possible hands that have been on that car, it may be that the blue wire that came out of the harness might be a splice someone made in the original harness.
If it was originally functional, you may find the torque converter clutch no longer works.
Maybe these drawings will help.

Re: 700r4 lock up

I believe the OP said that the wire came out of the body of the harness and not out of the connector.
