Anybody seen some slick ways to extract hot air from engine bay without doing stupid things to the hood? 1989 Firebird.

Thought about removing the cowl seal across the back of the hood.

 

The passenger-side vent on Trans Am fenders is functional, so T/A fenders might be the ticket...

 

I don't think that is going to pull air from engine bay. It is too isolated to the lower fender well.

 

Removing the cowl seal is a good way to pull any smells from under the hood into the fresh air vent. Also anything leaking under the hood can end up all over the windshield. Not to mention the hood will probably shake more.

With all the stock baffling under the front end and around the radiator, the airflow should come through the radiator, over the engine, down the trans tunnel and out. The only time any kind of exit in the hood will do much, is when the car is stationary.

Formula hood. It's the only way to be sure.

 

6" cowl hood !!!

 

To Drew's point on how the air flows through the engine bay. What if you put 2 electric fans on the lower firewall on each side of the engine, face them down and back so the hot air will "Flow" through and out under the car. You may have to get creative with some sort of bracket for the fans but the theory sounds like it will work.

 

I didn't think about the window fogging up. Good feedback, guys. I appreciate it and more ideas are welcome.

 

Formula hood and remove block-off plate. You can put your hand there and feel the heat exiting.

 

Sorry, I should have mentioned "cheap" too.

Search a member named "morrow" on here. He has a fully functional hood vent for this purpose.

 

Appreciate the idea but that would be ugly as sin on my Firebird.
