I have a 1988 2.8l v6 Camaro and I've been getting a bad rattle in my stock muffler. I've narrowed it down to a blown seal in my muffler, I want to put a cherrybomb muffler on it but I need to find a 2.25" single inlet to a 2" dual outlet. I want it to be cherrybomb brand preferably but if there is something else that someone thinks is better I will consider it. my budget is around $70 for the muffler. Also if I'm adding a shorter muffler than the stock 24 inch muffler would I need to add extending pipes to my current exhaust to make it in the proper position. I would want to weld it but I don't have much extra money to pay for a shop to weld it, I am considering clamps but I want to know what the best clamps are for my case that will be reliable and won't leak or break.
My car had a cherry bomb when I bought it. Didn't sound awful from what I recall, but I was also 17 at the time, so my standards may have been a bit different.... basically, the cherry bomb sat a couple inches down from the cat, and it was a straight pipe back over the axle. Where the stock muffler would usually fit, it was all straight pipes that were in the same "shape" as the stock muffler, so it still had two tailpipes. If you really want to run a cherry bomb with dual tailpipes, I can post a picture of the old setup after I get home from work, but you're gonna need a welder and some mild fabrication skills to replicate it.
You could buy any one of a number of straight through, glass packed style muff's for your budget that are built better and flow better than a Cherrybomb brand unit.
There are 13, 1 in , 2 out choices, right HERE
I agree with others that you'll need a welder to make it work the way that you're describing, but you could cob it together with muffler clamps and a pipe spreader if you have enough motivation.
I 100% suggest buying the Walker Super Turbo like in the link that T.L. provided:
It fits like stock with dual opposing tailpipes, and won't sound like a$$. It will provide a good sound from the V6, with a little more attitude than a stock replacement muffler.
