Got a question about licence plate law in TX
Got a question about licence plate law in TX
Tonight (after 6 months of owning my car) I got pulled over b/c my licence plate wasn't on my front bumper, but it was in my front windshield b/c when I bought the car there was no front mounting bracket, only holes where it was. Can I get a ticket for this or not (I only got a warning tonight). Thanx

Yes you can get a ticket for it. I have been pulled over about 6 times for no front plate, and have even got a ticket out at that dallas street races for it.
Texas law states that both license plates be on the furthest points of the car, I.E. the front and back bumpers. I specifically asked a cop who pulled me over for no front plate if I could put it in the windshield, and he told me this, and i did verify it with a state vehicle inspector. I still have no front plate (3 years now without it) and don't plan to put it on, because frankly I think Firebirds (especially black ones like mine) look like sh*t with a big metal plate and brackets hanging off the front of the car spoiling the lines. How often do you see vettes with front plates? I'll put my front plate on when corvettes put theirs on.

If I were going to go to a car show, I would take it off. But, for daily driving, I find it pointless to take the risk of getting a ticket and jacking up insurance rates. Just my 2 pennies.
Well my car came from out of state (came from SC) and it didn't have any front brackets...hell it didn't have any plates on it at all. The inspection was out, and so was the registration. I don't know how they got it down here, or for that matter how my friend (who I bought the car from) drove it around for 3 weeks until I bought the car. Owell. I'm still not gonna put it on the front bumper b/c I just repatined the CAMARO letters on the grill, now to repaint the rest of the grill.

Okay now the C5 has the same problem as my car. Does anyone else think the front end just looks spoiled with the plate on?

Yeah I think any car with a plate on the front just looks stupid. Especially on sports cars! My gf has a 97 GT Mustang, her car didn't even come with a plate holder, it's just screwed onto the bumper. The only reason that the law says you have to have one is so that the cops can point there radar at it. Owell
