If U have any suggestions for additional catagories for appearance awards, Please post .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am thinking seriously of having some T-shirts made for the "2005 FALL BRAWL." I am not sure how much the t-shirts printers can help out in art work or what/if they will charge for set-up work. Again, if somebody that is good with with computers can do something, that would really help! I will make a couple calls to a shop I have used before and try and get some better info.

HOW MUCH INTEREST WOULD THERE BE IN GETTING A T-SHIRT? They would basically sold at cost, and I would think we would need some advance order/sales depending on how many are desired, cause I will not be able to bankroll the project. Please speak up!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The BBQ will be a "pot luck" type deal where everybody will bring something from a master list I will make up a "food thread" and post about 2 or 3 weeks before the meet. Basically hot dogs/ buns/ chips/ drinks/ condements/ utensils/ ETC.

Yes it is. The dates that we have been using for the Winter meet falls on New Years's Eve....NOT CONDUSIVE TO A GOOD TURNOUT...as well as personal conflicts. I think this date/format may be the home of the now Fall/Winter meet, if this all works out good. So far it's looking pretty good!

I thought U already started on that project! I was thinking u would be finished with by now!

If U come to the strip with us, make sure the freeze plugs are in there good this time --maybe bring a can of K+W stop leak?

Let me know if you need a hand with the swap. I'd be more than happy to help.

Oh, and I don't have to say it because you know I'll be there.

Thanks for the generous offers guys, I will be sure to give you a holler if I need some help.

And Zap, I actually did start on the swap, but I havent acquired all the parts needed yet so I havent actually installed anything yet. I am still looking for an Engine. It will only take a me a weekend to throw everything back in and get her running. I probably wont hit the track however. My tranny still wont kick into OD and its a long drive to HRP in 3rd gear with 3.73's.

I went out to the Bear Creek admin office at lunch today and filled out the paperwork and put down the 125.00 deposit (100% refundable as long as we don't tear up the place) for pavillion #1--the same one we have had the last couple years.

By the way, if U look on the link for the map to the park the "pin" location icon is for the admin office, NOT THE PAVILLION #1! To get to the park/pavillion #1, turn east onto Clay rd from Hwy. 6, go about a mile or 2 to the second light--Bear Creek Dr.--turn right into the park and we are at theat first pavillion U see on the left.

Probably about the same as me--4.10's WITH the OD. Once u get to the strip, U probably don't need OD. Mine goes through the traps at about 5000 in third (700R4).

Maybe all U Katy guys could hook up and cruise out at the same time? Larry Dunlap's car is about the same as yours --he has a 350 auto (no overdrive) with 3.73's.

If U do, U may want to take the Beltway 8--even though it's a few miles further that way, it's probably easier--once U get a little ways past 59 the traffic is usually pretty easy.

Although I guess since that FRI is a holiday for most, traffic hopefully would be less than normal--except by the major shopping malls!

OK, I asked in another thread but got no replys so I'm asking it again here:

Who is planning on racing, what have you run in the past and what do you hope to run this time?

The only time I have to go on right now is 8.0@90 in the 1/8th.

If you don't have or don't want to share your times which class are you planning on running in?

12.99 + faster =esc
13.00 to 13.99
14.00 to 14.99
15.00 to 15.99
16.00 + up

Last time I went to HRP, (whenever the summer meet was) I was running 13.40's/13.50's, and it was in the upper 80's/lower 90's.

With the cooler weather I should see about a tenth faster and a couple of small mods done lately may get another tenth off, so I'll predict 13.30's .

I know Larry Dunlap is running about 1 tenth faster thwn me--maybe a tenth and 1/2.

I still think U will run a little quicker than 8.0's in the 1/8th, with cooler weather and some tires!

I ran like 13.4 at HRP and then change gears and back tires and ran like .2 faster in the 1/8 mile at Sealy in hot weather. Im hoping for really low 13s. Should be a competitive class with Zap and maybe Barry (where the heck has be been), and possibly Kevin. Actually Id be plenty happy if I ran in the 12s and was disqualified. I doubt it tho, Im just going to do a tuneup and havent really done anything else. That Nitrous kit Mike is selling sounds tempting

Hey, I had a thought...

What if you get thrown out of the track for running faster than your safety equipment allows?

Will you lose, even if you have the best time in your class?

lol, I almost posted this exact question earlier. I'm thinking if you get thrown out or told to slow down, you can't win. It has to be a legitimate, legal pass. Whadya think?

And the reason I was going to bring this up is I think I may be close as well.

Not sure what specific safety equipment you are talking about, but I would say you must comply with track rules in this respect. I need a helmet to run in the 13s, maybe you need a drive shaft loop or roll cage to run lower. Whatever the track rules require ,you need to win your class. Seems obvious to me.

Well, actually the fastest thirdgenner and the elimination ladder with the class breakdowns are two seperate deals. as far as I understand it:

1. we are all going to get out there and make passes and we can compare times for bragging rights regardless of whether your best time came from a practice run or in the elimination ladder tournament we are going to do.

2. The "tournament" double elimination ladder we are going to do, just for fun, is so we can have some heads-up racing/eliminations. That's where the time/index brackets/classses come into play.

We will set up a double elimination ladder for the following classes:
11.99 and faster
12.00 to 12.99
13.00 to 13.99
14.00 to 14.99
15.00 to 15.99
16.00 + up

After everybody makes a couple warm-up passes to see what U are running, we will sign u up for whatever time class U feel is appropiate.

We will set up an elimination ladder for each time class and run a double elimination ladder. Which means if U win , U advance to the next round in the class U are in.

If U lose, U will advance to the losers lasser. After all the winners side is run until there is only one car left, that has not lost a race, all the people that HAVE lost one race will be paired up on the losers side/ladder. They will all run again until there is only one car that has only lost once.

Then the winner of the widder's ladder and the winner of the loser's ladder, in each time class, will run to determine who is that particular overall class winner, and a plaque will be awarded to that person.

We will have a .100 "breakout" rule to keep the sandbaggers from running in a class slower than they should be running.
EXAMPLE: If U sign up in the 14.00 to 14.99 class, and U run a 13.89 it will be scored as a loss and move to the losers ladder. (A 13.90 is acceptable -- NOT a loss! BUT FROWNED UPON!!!) If U run under the class minimum a second time, It will be scored as your second loss, and U are eliminated.

EVERYBODY UNDERSTAND?

QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? SUGGESTIONS?

At this point we were only going to give out award plaques for the winner of each elimination class/ladder?

I guess we could also give out a plaque for the fastest time turned in for each class, but if somebody gets out there and runs a 12.98 and another run at 13.01, it would NOT BE FAIR TO SAY U ARE THE FASTEST IN THE 13.00 TO 13.99 CLASS! That's why the times are just for bragging rights. To be a class winner, U MUST compete in the elimination ladder/tournament.

U do not HAVE to run the elimination ladder--we can have all the test-n-tune runs U want to do--all the grudge matches U want to run--OUTSIDE of the "tournament", but your times are just for bragging rights!

Were more classes just added? I thought it was 12.99 and faster. Oh well it doesn't really matter.

A plaque for fastest time and winner in every calss? I think that is going overboard. How about a plaque for the winner in each class and ONE BIG TROPHY for fastest time overall, as in "FASTEST Third Gen" on hand.

I mean really, what kind of communist plot gives a trophy/plaque to every 3rd person? Personally I'd rather loose, fighting for something than win a prize just for showing up.

Yes I did add a class because ther are several talking about being able to run in the 11's or faster.

I agree with U--I think the only plaques that should be given are for the class elimination ladder winners--THAT'S WHY I PUT A QUESTION MARK AFTER THE SENTENCE ABOUT AWARDING PLAQUES TO THE QUICKEST TIME IN EACH CLSS, becauseI am not sure and would like to discuss this.

Ok--now that I have had a couple minutes to think about --U ARE RIGHT-- I am wrong!

NO AWARDS FOR JUST TURNING IN A FAST TIME THAT HAPPENS TO FALL IN ONE OF THE TIME CLASSES WE ARE GOING TO SET UP!

AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR THE WINNERS OF THE ELIMINATION LADDER/TOURNAMENT ONLY!

WE will also give an award for the fastest time overall turned in for the night Afterall , this thing started out as the "Fastest Houston Thirdgenner" and it still is!

We will also give one award for the best reaction out of all the classes!

A total of 7 drag strip awards/plaques for:

FASTEST HOUSTON THIRDGENNER AT THE 2005 FALL BRAWL!
11.99 and faster

Class winners of the following classs:

12.00 to 12.99
13.00 to 13.99
14.00 to 14.99
15.00 to 15.99
16.00 + up

Fastest/best reaction time from all the elimination participants

Believe me , I fully appreciate your input, cause there does not seem to be too much other input, with the exception of a few, but I guess that is just human nature!
No problem, you would have to try a LOT harder to offend me.

For that matter you would have to try a lot harder to make me even consider the possability of taking offence.

Actuall, if you DO want to offend me you better spell it out in caps "THIS IS MENT TO OFFEND YOU" otherwise I probbaly won't take the hint.

All sounds good to me. One thing, I think you had a typo there when you said .01 under your time to break out. Obviously its 0.1, as illustrated in your example.

Im definitely for limiting the awards to a maximum of what you specified. We had not discussed adding the other class of less than 11 seconds but it certainly makes sense. I'd feel bad for Texas LT1 if someone shows up with a thirdgen prostocker or something.

Should be a lot of fun!!

what are you trying to say Larry?

Besides, I've seen at least 2 other people shooting for solid 11's. If my plans work out, I *might* get an 11.99 but that would be pushing it. I'm just shooting for the 12.99 bracket

Since the rules/procedures/info (whatever U want to call it) for the "Fastest Houston Thirdgenner" portion of the "FALL BRAWL" is kinda scattered around in a couple different posts/threads, I wanted to combine it, and put it all in one place for people to refer to, so here's goes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

If U join us at HRP Fri night, U do not HAVE to run the elimination ladder--in fact U do not have to run at all. Come on out and watch all the fun! We can have all the test-n-tune runs U want to do--all the grudge matches U want to run--OUTSIDE of the "tournament", but your times are just for bragging rights! No awards will be given out for just turning in a quick time, except for "overall fastest ET".

A total of 8 drag strip awards/plaques will be given.

OVERALL FASTEST HOUSTON THIRDGENNER AT THE 2005 FALL BRAWL!
An award will be given for the overall fastest time turned in for the eveniing, regardless of whethe or not it is in the elimination tournament/ladder--after all this is the "Fastest Houston Thirdgenner"

Class winners of the following classs:
11.99 and faster class
12.00 to 12.99
13.00 to 13.99
14.00 to 14.99
15.00 to 15.99
16.00 + up

Fastest/best reaction time from all who participate in the double elimination ladder.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

After everybody makes a couple warm-up passes to see what kind of timesU are running, at approximetly 8pm, we will sign u up for whatever time class U feel is appropiate.

We will set up an elimination ladder for each time class and run a double elimination ladder. Which means if U win , U advance to the next round in the class U are in.

If U lose, U will advance to the losers ladder. After all the winners side is run until there is only one car left, that has not lost a race, all the people that HAVE lost one race will be paired up on the losers side/ladder. They will all run again until there is only one car that has only lost once.

If we have an odd # of cars in a round (3--5--7--ETC) the fastest car from the previous round get the bye run, but will be required to make a pass. If it is in the first round, where no times are available, we will draw a name from a hat, to see who gets the free pass/bye round.

Then the winner of the widder's ladder and the winner of the loser's ladder, in each time class, will run to determine who is that particular overall class winner, and a plaque will be awarded to that person.

We will have a .100 "breakout" rule to keep the sandbaggers from running in a class slower than they should be running.
EXAMPLE: If U sign up in the 14.00 to 14.99 class, and U run a 13.899 (or faster) it will be scored as a loss and U move to the losers ladder. (A 13.90 is acceptable -- NOT a loss! BUT FROWNED UPON!!!) If U run under the class minimum a second time, It will be scored as your second loss, and U are eliminated.

If U run a time faster than what the track will allow U to run, with the safety equiptment U have on your car, and can NOT make any more runs (unless it is the "final"), U will be eliminated. I do not know any other way to deal with that situation.

Please be advised that if U run faster than 14.00 second ET's, HRP requires U to wear a helmet! It is up to U to provide one. I'm sure u can probably borrow one from somebody else if necessary, but be prepared!

since there are awards being given out - are we going to need to pony up some $$$ to cover the cost? I didn't notice this in the master post at the top.

That is a subject I was about to bring up. I'll cover it all in another thread, in the next day or two, rather than going into it here.

hey i saw on another board that clash of the titans that was supposed to be this weekend has been rescheduled for hrp on the 25th of november at hrp. that isnt gonna interfere with our deal, is it?

Probably, but then again with the small numer of people that say they are going to the drag strip Fri night, i don't think it makes much difference.

I just looked at the HRP message boards as well as the "Clash of the Titans" web site--YES they are scheduled for Fri/ Sat night of the weekend we were going to have our 2005 Fall Brawl. The admission prices are also all jacked up.

WELL, THIS SUCKS!!!
----------------------------------------------------------

1. I took a closer look at both again, and the admission prices and tech card prices look to be the same as normal.

2. The Clash of the Titans scheduling for Fri night is practice and Qual beginning @ 9pm.

3. I do not know how much it will cut down the amount of time we will have available for runs on the track.

4. I do know that with those guys there, it will make for a MUCH more interesting night in between the bad *** cars that will be there and the "performance midway displays and attractions"

5. I did send an e-mail to the HRP mgmt, (who have been very coperative and helpful in responding to our requests and needs), about the time available to us on the strip, as well as admission/tech card prices.

So, based on all that, do we cancel our plans, or do we turn this around into a positive and embrace the Fri night activities, and enjoy the show that will be there, as well as our own thirdgen show!!!

If we can get in the number of runs necessary for a couple of practice runs for everybody, and whatever is necessary for our different time/class elimination ladder (which does not look like many at this point), I would think this would be even better, than just the normal Fri night crowd at HRP!!!

Can somebody that has a better computer than my old system and dial-up ISP, PLEASE go to the HMP (just so we know what our options are) web site and see if they are showing anything for Fri--Nov 25th. I have problems with that site.

I posted in the other thread too, but I checked the HMP website and their schedule only goes through November 5th.

As far as HRP, if they will still let us run that night, I say we still go and watch some badass cars between our runs.

I will definitely be there. I am requesting off from work and everything. I've done some major improvements to my car and would love to see what it will do in the 1/4. And the meet.. man, that's right up the street from where I live. I'll definitely be there. I'm psyched about this. And about the t-shirts, I would definitely pre-pay for of those babies. I printed up some flyers and I'm going to pass them around to some people I've seen come in and out of O'Reilly's with third gens.

See you guys there!

Give us an update on the shirts!

I will add U to the head count thread, for both days.

Got any idea what your car runs in the 1/4? or what it has run in the past?

I have not persued the t-shirts as of yet. U are the first person who has shown any interest in it. I wasn't going to spend all the time involved, in getting that project done if nobody wants one!

So, systemofalldown, will you be sporting some new mods for the race? Maybe a little N2O?

Looking over your info, if you were to add a little N2O, you might be in contention for the big prize.

The more the merrier.

Like Zap said, what do you run, what do you hope to run?

I'm hoping for an 11, but even if I get it the competition will still be pretty tough...

Message back from Gerald--one of the honchos at HRP.

"Craig,

our reschedule of the Clash will not affect your group on Friday Night. If
needed we will run late that evening and make sure everyone is accommodated.

The prices will remain the same. $15 to race, $8 adults, kids 12 and under
FREE

Thanks

Gerald."

That's what I'm thinking too. Since nobody is throwing a tantrum about it, I guess we will stick to our original plans???

This thing hasn't been ran in the 1/4 yet. I've been patiently improving the car over the past few months. I did, however, take an '05 Vette off the line at a light one night until he hit third. It was all over from there though. I took a 2002 Porche 911 Turbo a couple months back when I still had the four speed in her. Unless he just wasn't trying.

I'd run N2O in the beast but I have no idea how to go about running the hook-ups and all that good stuff. That and a little $ wouldn't hurt. N2O just isn't something I know too much about.

I do HOPE to run at least a low 12.

Like I said, hope. This IS going to be my first time.

But of course I wasn't at all bad my first time at something else. Haha.

Just joking.

Cool! That will put another '82 up near the front of the pack.

I'm so excited! I can't wait to hang with ya'll again. The Spring Fling was a lot of fun so I'm definitely looking forward to this meet. This time I'm bringing my camera though.
