Free night at HRP--WHEN DO WE WANT TO DO THAT???
Now that the Holidays have come and gone, and everything is settling back down to normal (whatever that is), we need to figure out when we are going to use our free thirdgen night at HRP.
If U are note familiar with this situation or need to refresh your memory, Please refer to the link below.
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=333582
PLEASE post when is a good night for U and even more important, post what is NOT a good night--even if U are in the "I don't care--just tell me when and where group!"
I don't think they are back to running Sat nights yet-probably still the Fri night and Sun "winter "schedule. Go to HRP's web ite if U need more info.

I suggest a while after 2-5-06, to give the people that attend the Auto-X (like me!) a chance to fix what they broke.
And no, I don't now what will brake, but if I wasn't prepared to break SOMETHING I wouldn't be going racing in the first place.
BTW, did Seally ever open up again? I havn't heard anything about that place.

im always down to go out to the tracks... but since we're thinking about pushing the event to late feb. or early march due to the auto-x, i was thinking what if we do this...
Red92RS had brought up a dyno day for one our meets. what if we make that our feb. meet on the 25th which will be 3 weeks after the auto-x at g.g.p. that way it will give us plenty of time to repair damaged parts, and not to mention give us some stats on our cars before we head to the tracks
then make our march meet at the track...
just a thought.

Waiting until after the auto-x is definately a good idea.
Sometime in Feb or March makes sense to me.

Unless anybody has any objections, I am going to contact Gerald at HRP about our freebe night that we have coming, and try to set it up for the second Fri night in March--3/10/06.
That would give us a week to recover and plenty to talk about at the March monthly--Sat 3/18/06
Comments/suggestions?

I have to suggest sooner, let's drive it home! Our next monthly is the 18th Feb? Let's hit the Instant Green at HRP on Sunday the 19th. I haven't been there on Sunday, but it sounds like times are posted on the board. Shouldn't be a problem asking for a Sportsman Tree for those who want it (me). Would make for good smack talk at the monthly meet on the night before.

I was on the phone with my insurance man yesterday and I asked him if I was covered if I went on a race track. He didn't know so he called someone else and asked. He called back and said heck no.
So, I guess you can count me out. I can't afford to 'eat' my car in case of an accident. The wife would kick my a_ _.

not sure if it will change anything, but uh, NO ONE is covered by insurance going to the track unless you have some special "racer" insurance or something. No insurance is going to cover an accident at the track. its a chance you take, albeit it a VERY slim one. how often do you see a 13+ second car wrecking at the track? nearly never. just my opinion.

I wanted a 3rd gen f body since they came out. I had to wait around 20 years before I could get one. The risk just isn't worth it to me. Just my opinion.
BTW, when I was in high school in the mid '80's. My mom pulled into our drive way in a new red z28 hard top and started honking the car. I ran outside and got all excited because I thought she had bought it for me. I found out it was a new company car (she worked for GM) and she was just going get the mail in it. ----bummer
Check out dumpalink.com if you want to see what can go wrong when people are horseing around in there car and expecially motorbike.
One video is a guy in a brand new vette at the starting line and the car just burst into flames. I bet the guy will be paying for that for years to come.

I know whe U go into the pits U sign an insurance sheet, but I think that is for bodily injury--not for car damage.

The only time you're going to have a problem is if your car is FAST. I'm talking REALLY fast. like in the 9's. Anything else, you should be able to control.

Barry is absolutely right. If you are comfortable and have fun pulling a third gen away from the stop light, you will not have any problem pulling hard from the christmas tree. In fact, you will probably have a LOT of fun as you are in a controlled environment, and you are expected to run it hard. You own one of these cars because it feels good to drive it!
If you have not had much time at the track, it is doubtful you will run faster than 14 seconds, or more than 95 mph. That is simply the "base" limit on our cars without significant mods. If you have made significant mods, well then you already have time at the track, because you will have spent a considerable amount of time and money getting in the 13 second or faster range. A 12 second street car is FAST!
The NHRA rules are laid out in a pretty sound manner, under 14 seconds all you need beyond a street legal car is a helmet. Any faster than 13 seconds you start stepping into the drive shaft safety loop, then the roll cage. If you get to or beyond the helmet requirement, believe me you will already be hooked and will have done a lot research on this board and elsewhere. If you can handle your street car on the highway, you will have absolutley no problem blasting down a clear staight-way at 90+ mph. Do the basics and make sure your car is road-worthy: Tires, pressure, brakes, etc.
If you haven't been to the track, you may be nervous about the burn-out, or how to stage, or where to turn out at the end. No worries! Your TGO friends will help you out. And read the link I placed in the next post!
FYI, HMP is hosting a Pro Mod competition next Friday And Saturday. Looks like I may have a cousin racing in the event.

I knew I had this link, just had to go find it. I don't know much about the board, but this article is really pretty good for anyone that hasn't staged at the tree before:
Drag Racing Basics
If you are not interested in the drag scene but want to race Auto-X, hookup with esc or Laura89Iroc on this board.
Enjoy,
Dave

Thanks, Dave.
You know, these are some of the best-handling cars ever made.........by ANYONE. There has been 2 times that I remember, if I would have been in another car.......toast. One was I was going east on I-10 just west of 6 when the space between the feeder and the frwy was dirt. Some idiot cowboy in a pick-up (figures....it was a Ford) decided he wanted in my lane. My frontend was even with his the back edge of his door. And, oh by the way, I was going 90 at the time. After going backwards down I-10 at 80 MPH, I ended up on the feeder road facing the right direction, with one flat tire. Rocks wedged between the tire and the rim let the air out. The LAST thing I would worry about would be hitting the wall at a dragstrip.

I agree. I've had to dodge refridgerators and televisions at 80+ on the interstate outside of DC. Tried to dodge an armadillo on SH 87 around High Island. Missed all but the 'dillo. He smacked my oil filter, it never would seal right after that. They're tough!
But I NEVER lost faith in my ability to steer the car where I wanted to go. Just keep your car in good road shape.

Since I have not heard back from Gerald at HRP, I'm going to send another email about our freebe night. He is usually pretty prompt about answering--maybe got lost somewhere down the line. Will post response asap.
