Re: PRICES FOR A 350 ENGINE

I have an almost complete short block 350 (unassembled, tho). Std bore 350 block, honed, new freeze plugs installed, 1 piece rear main, 2 bolt. Stock rods, stock hydraulic roller lifters and pushrods, stock crank, new sealed power moly piston rings. It was pulled out of a '97 vortec truck and the block was taken to the machine shop for new freeze plugs and honing. I also have a new set of forged speed pro pistons (std bore), but I don't know if they're any good or not because some battery acid leaked on them.....

Welcome to TGO. All caps are considered "yelling." You might consider standard English--hey, just easier to read.

Re: PRICES FOR A 350 ENGINE

I was just about to ask if he had considered the $1100 crate motor that you can get NEW from chevy with a GM warranty, but I have a question.

The motor is rated at 270 HP(IIRC). While that is more than any of the third-gens ever came with, does anyone know how much HP one of these motors will make after being install in an otherwise stock TPI car?

My guess is that it will STILL make more than stock HP, even with the lower compression. So you could use 87 octane.

Any guesses, opinions or real life testimonials?

P.S. I don't mean to hijack this thread, I just woinder if it might be a good option for Mr. Resendez.

Depends on what you sre gonna do with it, i think it is the 2 piece rear seal block you speak of, so a bump up to a roller cam is allot more than a 87+ block, the problem is that you would want a cam to suit the motor with the TPI on it, work around that and i am sure the hp numbers would bennifit anyways, not to mention the stock intake can be upgraded, i think 300hp is verry easily made with this being a good platform, but yea, you would void the warranty, but who cares, when the time comes and it breaks it will be past warranty time, remember, it is not a ford!!! Wouldnt hurt to have the heads that come on it ported, but it would depend on time and cash.

It is a 2 piece seal.
I think it comes with a pretty mild cam that would work OK with a TPI. Of course a TPI specific cam WOULD be better.

But, depending on his budget, it might be a good, reliable, reasonably powerful starting point. The idea of pulling it off the shelf and tossing it in the car w/out any headaches and being confident of the quality is the primary advantage. BTW it turns out that they now have a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty. So I would be inclined to leave the thing as-is and not do anything right away that would void the warranty..then if I wanted to go racing I would just spray it.

BTW, what year car are we talking about anyway?
