IT'S ALIVE!

Well gentlemen, it looks for now i may very well make the meet, just pray for me the trans stays alive for a while(unless i steel the T56 from the 95). I am WAY ahead of schedule, i didnt expect to have a running car for another 3 weeks, i thought i would have a bunch of set backs(time, money, parts), i also thought i was going to need to replace more but i did not. I am happy as can be for now.

Got the bottom end buttoned back up...

Decided to freshen up the engine bay...(before)

With some carb cleaner, rags, scotch brite, 2 cans of gloss black rust proof paint.

Accessories and headers back on.

Distribuor and intake back on.

All said and done ready for fire up, key on, snap the throttle for a prime after the pump runs for a second, smash the ignition and get nothing but a roll over, go figgure, i am cursed, no matter what i do it is allways initially stabbed 180* out. Spin the dizzy back, hit it again and cranks to life. It is open header till i can get the Y pipe welded back up.

Thanks to Daniel for making it out last night for helping me with some odds and ends, it made my work just a tiny bit easier, wish i coulda fired it up with you here.

Special thanks to IROCaholic for the inspiration i got looking at his pics, just seeing his brackets dont up made me want to get her the attention she needed to look decent, cannot wait to meet you in person.

LMK what you guys think...

Zane.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

Sweet!!!! That was pretty F’ing fast. I am glad you decided to paint the fenderwells and everything else, it looks 10 times better. Did you do the brackets? I couldn’t tell in the pics. I watched the video and it sounds sweet, it’s in much better tune than mine is right now, but my new carb is coming next week so I should be there. What’s with the tiny air cleaner? I am super pumped for you, I really hope that both of our cars stay in one piece for the meet.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

Yea, i cleaned the brackets and painted them black as well. The air cleaner works great, i dont like the big ones, it clears into my cowl hood just right. We will see if it stays in one piece, i didnt have tome and money to get a clutch, so when this one dies then i will get another(again).

Man, we could not be anymore identical. Both 89's, both RS's, both T5 (mine wasnt originally. Both too broke to buy a performence clutch. What are the odds.

Yea, its pretty funny, if only you had 383 cubic inches and were wearing primer, that would be crazy as hell. I have a T56 in my 95 i will use if mt t5 breaks, but i would rather not.

Damn dude, where do you find all of these deals? Looks like your moving forward while I am moving backward. Both of my leaks are now worse and I also have an exhaust leak. Plus I still dont have the clutch hooked up.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

ALLright then,

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got her primed in the high dollar epoxy primer, satin finish looks way better than the flat black it used to be when i would first get her done, i like it.

Getting started...

She was looking rough.

Taped off and getting sanded, garbag bags work so much better than news paper.

Thinking about adding GS stripes for the hell of it.

Finished up...

Here is what she looked like after being completed back together and a night of street racing...

I need to re do the hood, i half assed it to get it finished and get her to the meet...

SHE RUNS GREAT, i raced a truck, 05 chevy short wheel base single cab with a LS1, cam, full length headers, bolt on and a 4.11 gear. I thought i would get by 3 or more, we went from a 20 roll, i pulled him slowly till third then i just started pulling away, 2 wins in a row.

Went to leave the meet and a 89 GT i wanted to race with a 306 cammed with heads(blah blah ford) that sounded great, i even took the cutouts off for the hell of it to see what she sounded like and the guy wanted to do it from a roll when i left, i missed the 1-2 shift(trans doesnt like to go in above 5500 rpm) and he pulled, 2nd time around i pulled him like he was stock(felt great) and then we went from a stop sighn, he left first(i actually didnt know he was going straight). I dumped the clutch and spun sucking him up and spitting him out pretty badly. He didnt have **** for me. Well, i asked him what he does in the 1/4 and he said 13.50s. I was happy with the ol girl, she still has some carb stumble but oh well, i think my power valve is bad. The truch claimed 14.0s and i think he was full of it.

I am a happy camper, my car is looking great and running even better. Hope to see you guys soon.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

Yeah no way the T5 can handle slicks, much less the gears. Your doing good by going from a roll, the launch is one of the things that is hardest on the T5. Sounds like your car is a beast taking down a firehawk with 2.73's on the first week you got her back on the road.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

I am happy so far but once again, nothing goes good forever so....

*******UPDATE********

Going home from work i was playing with a friends dodge truck, went to pass him with a swoosh and i ran up to the top of fourth gear and i was beside him, SWISH the hood flew off. I left it behind, it was not in great shape but now i need a new hood. It ripped the pins threw the hood and flew right off without touching anything.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

Man your a busy m'fer. Already got another hood, and back on the road. I had a line on a clutch cable and then the guy backed out on me so I am still stuck there. I might try to do what ever free stuff I can this weekend starting with getting that bolt out of my pan. Things still dont look good, but I am going to keep my options open.

Well, thanks for inspiring me to do the work under my hood, you doing all that hard work spread to me, i hope my nuckle busting work might keep you inspired not to abandon hope. As you said before, it pays off when it is all said and done, totally worth it. I need 400$ for my rearend but i dont know when ill get it, think i gotta go ahead and swap my T56 in and sell the T5 for 400$ and fund the rearend. Dont give up man. Wish you were around my block so i could help you out.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

Yeah, if you do swap that the T56 in let me know, because I would be willing to buy your hydraulics from the t5 since they wont carry over to the t56.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

****! Thats some back luck right there. Stick with it dude, I got the bolt out of my oil pan tonight and I am going to re-assemble everything in the next couple of days. I have to re-thread my crank because the moron who had the engine before me cross threaded it and the threads finally gave way when I tried to put it back on tonight. I will keep my eye out for a hood, I think I just saw a guy post one on here for sale.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!

Sorry to hear about your hood, that sucks. If you need a hood right now i am willing to sell mine to you for $100 bucks to help you out. I bought it for $175 delivered from StevenK 2 years ago. Anyone else i sell it to is paying $150
