Thanks to all: December Gathering 2007!
Thanks to all that attendend for making this years gathering! I had a great time talking with all of you and meeting some "new to our group" thirdgenners.
A special thanks is in order to Sue for once again bringing her famous tater salad and fudge and for having Craig's car present for one last meet.
This gathering was not just for all of us, but it was in honor of the late Craig Landry (ZAP Racing), whom most of us here considered a good friend.
Thanks to Larry and Donnie for handling most of the cooking. I tried to help a little but ended up burning the crap out a couple of fingers!
Oh well, they will grow back!
Despite the bone numbingly cold 40 mph winds and the threat of rain which we had all week, we had a total of 20 - 25 cars (if you count the truck and the three 4thgen Firebirds). I will post my pics of the gathering tomorrow. Anywho, thanks again for a great turnout and BB-Q, and I look forward to seeing you all there at the next one!
On a side note... Great time during the day, but crappy night!
On the way to the meet this morning, about half way there, I noticed my volts were getting low (hence the alternator was taking a crap). When I started the car to leave the event, volts were about 8.5 - 9. The car barely started. I got on the throttle a little on the way out and the motor starting cutting in and out in the upper rpm's (not enough juice to run the Holley fuel pump and the MSD ignition). I make it down to HW6 and 290 and the car dies. I coast it into the Shell gas station at that intersection. I called a friend to bring a spare alternator he had and some tools. About an hour later while I was still waiting, I tried to start the car. It cranked for a second and then the starter started clicking (EVEN WITH THE KEY OFF!!).... I think I fried the remote starter solenoid. I changed the alternator in the Shell parking lot and put a jump box on it to start it. As soon as I hooked it up, the starter was engaged (no key in ignition). I had to have a flatbed tow it back to my shop ($120.00). So, when I wake up, I'm going to buy a remote solenoid and an alternator, and maybe a battery. Wish me luck!

sad to hear that you had problems, i hope it works out ok. I had eventful night as well, somehow i left one of the guys that came with me in houston thinking he will be in the second car... So had to go to houston at midnight to pick him up. It turned out pretty good, i'm looking forward more events like that one. Thanks to everybody, and the food was great.

You to Zane! It was probably between 2000 and 2001 at Sonic in Spring. My ex-girlfriend used to live out there. I can't remember if I still had the factory motor in it or if I just put the new one together. The car turned a bunch of heads that night and that yellow C5 that I raced on 1960 was shocked when I left him in the dust!
...........Was a good night!
Anywho, I just replaced the alternator and the remote starting solenoid. It fired right up, volts are at 14.5, runs good as new!
I'll try to post my pics later on tonight.

Good news man, glad you fixed your problems, i hate the small things, they will kill you.
I tell you what, i allways told everyone about your car after i met you back then, sure was cool to see her again, whats next? My 383 is temporary for a .040 over 400, so by then ill have more $$ into it than i would like.

i hate to hear about the problems. but it sounds like it was a good meet over all.

Re: Thanks to all: December Gathering 2007!
It seems everyone was having problems. I am sure everyone saw me back up and return to the gathering with car problems.
I have no idea what happened. I lost the alternator, I was only seeing 8 volts and the car was running terrible. I shut the car off, only for it not to start again. After some tinkering and wondering what I was going to do, the car fired right up and haven't really had a problem since. (well, other than the fact my battery was dead this morning). The electrical in my car is a nightmare.

Re: Thanks to all: December Gathering 2007!
It was great to see oll the old timers and a few new ones that I had never met. I think Craig would have been happy to see such a good turnout in his honor. Did anyone get a final count...I think I saw 16 third gens.
Sorry to hear about the mechanical issues you guys had...but at least it wasn't anything TOO bad.
I was happy that it was such a bright and sunny day...but man, that 30mph North wind really had a bite to it!
I want to thank Chriss (plndtx) for remembering a can opener.
If it weren't for him we would have really been "out in the cold".
I wonder if we should get started talking about our next meet while everone is paying attention?

The total count was 21 Thirdgen's that showed up. This count included the two car's from SA, Jay's car and the white 3rdgen firebird with the LS-1, whom showed later on in the day.

Re: Thanks to all: December Gathering 2007!
This was a pretty cool meet.
Never seen so many CLEAN thirdgens in one sitting. I just wish we had gotten there earlier.
Cold weather is really tough on batteries and charging systems, so if your battery is getting weak the extra strain from the cold will cause problems.
Thanks for having us, and maybe next time i can get some of our 60+ members to get on board and actually go.
Which car was Craig's car?

Re: Thanks to all: December Gathering 2007!
That would be the second car, in the third picture, above in 1bad91Z's post.
Right next to the formula.
We should also talk about who is going to buy it. It would be nice if someone on the list got it so that we could keep an eye on it.

Re: Thanks to all: December Gathering 2007!
It was great seeing old faces and new ones too. Thanks to Sue and Barry for bringing Craig's car, it was nice to have him there in spirit at least. The weather was a bit brutal, especially for my wife who is from a hot climate in Peru. She get's cold when the temperature drops below 70 deg.
Anyway, I wish the people who came later would have come earlier, especially with it getting dark so early. There are some pretty fast cars around now so I suggest a drag strip meet again, or just a drag night where we can match up and have some fun. I haven't done anything new to my car except change out the fried alternator for a chrome one. That ought to be good for about .1 eh?

A drag meet sounds great! I would love to, i swore i will not take my car to the track till i install my Dana 44 and T56....on slicks. I am sure some radial runs wont kill me, they havent on the street!
PS
I dont know about you guys but...man, i got sick as a dying dog, i am feeling better today, but the cold whooped my hind end, then next day was coughs and cold, i was bundled up and sweating to death but still felt cold, i am glad i am getting over it pretty quickly.

If you cant find any of that, Vitamin B-12 and some vitamin C (Powerade comes with B-12 in it)
My girlfriend was already sick before we got there, so i gave her the same thing and she is doing much better now. She started to get a sore throat so i gave her some Jack D and her voice is back.

Re: Thanks to all: December Gathering 2007!
It was a good to meet some of you. I do wish we would have gotten there sooner.
All of you have some very nice cars...i'm glad I brought my girl, so now she won't get so mad when I spend time and money on my car. Actually, she started promoting it.
Luckily, Lucid and myself had no problems on the way to the meet or back. I ended up staying with my girl's family who live about an hour south in West Columbia. Also, neither of us ended up getting caught speeding. It was nice to cruise at 90-100mph all the way there passing everyone up. Hope to do it again soon.

I'll most likely bring the Dark Red Z to next one. I don't think anyone here has seen it in person yet...

I have seen it in person and it is very nice. I did not get to here it though. We should start talking about a spring meet considering its a good ways a way and that is really when we get the best weather in Houston.

Oh man a gathering in the spring or summer would be great.
I really enjoyed seeing all of you and getting to hangout with other people who like thirdgens as much as I do and after seeing all of your cars it really made want to hurry and get my 90 GTA on the road. So hopefully it will be finished in time for the next gathering.

Re: Thanks to all: December Gathering 2007!
Yep, that's the one. I did a bunch of work on it awhile back to get it back running / tuned etc.. and eventually ended up buying it for a daily driver. My truck took a big ole' sh*t the day after X-mas, so it's a good thing I did buy that Camaro, because I would eat crap and chase rabbits before I made the black one a daily!
I'll be doing the heater core VERY soon in the red one, cause I'm tired of my toes going numb on the way home from my girlfriend's house!
