Need a condenser
I would really like to find a new one...but every place I have called so far says they are discontinued.
Anyone know where I can buy a new one?
Anyone have a used one in REALLY good shape in/around Houston?
I'm hoping to put one in this weekend.
Thanks,

Re: Need a condenser
Thanks, but I really want one that will not be ANOTHER project to get in.
I found one on-line for $180.00 from radiatorbarn.com. Oreilies had one for $130.00 but it is backordered with no delivery date. So, unless I hit a junk yard today or tomorrow, I'll probably order the one from radiator barn.
BTW, seen any good third gen junk yards lately?

Huh, I called two autozones here is Houston and they both told me they couldn't get it. Maybe there are differences between the various years and they just don't have the 82 part.

You might try XLParts 713-983-1000 I think the phones all get directed to their main wharehouse on the northwest side of town but they are a parts supplier for stores and seem to have a good idea whats available in the aftermarket. Failing that, I think that 83 Berlinetta I told you about before might still have its condensor K&K Auto 713-692-9163 on Aldine Westfield.

Thanks
XL said "obsolete".
K&K says they have one...but they wouldn't tell me what kind of shape it is in.
I may try a couple of junk yards tomorrow and if I can't find one in good shape, order a new one from Radiator barn.

Re: Need a condenser
Have you tried looking for one from a Firebird? Some of those Birds got the bigger condenser.
I pulled on out of a Trans Am in the junkyard and it was massive compared to the dinky Camaro condenser mine originally had.
One place you might want to try is Full Service Auto Parts, which is pretty popular here in San Antonio.
I wanted to try and compare the size of a truck and van condenser compared to the Fbody parts, but that was something that got lost in the shuffle....

Re: Need a condenser
So I just had a good look at a condenser from a '92 Z-28 and it is a LOT smaller than the one that came in my '82.
I'm hoping that the different design is the result of improvments in efficiency in the 10 years between when they were made. But I think that is a long shot...

That link above might be two addresses in one. It works though.
I can't speak for the 1992 year condensers, but in my 89 I've been able to get 31° duct temps blowing on me (ahhhhhhh, comfy). To get 31° temps, you need a condenser that can shed molten lava like heat. I have the stock 89 condenser. It gets a workout, that's for sure. But with both cooling fans running she does a fine fine job.
