Re: Houston Texas Thirdgen Round Up Cruise!

Spring sounds good. It may be a little early to ask, but what do you think is a good time to meet? Figuring about 3 hours drive time from Spring to the Roundup, plus at least 1 stop, do you think 6:30 or 7:00 would be good?

Re: Houston Texas Thirdgen Round Up Cruise!

yes it would have to be early. 7:am would be perfect. that way we have a little time for people to show up. we would also have to set a time to cruise out also instead of waiting around.i believe this will be the fourth one for me and I wont miss one now.

Re: Houston Texas Thirdgen Round Up Cruise!

The time and place are fine with me. CurrentlyI do not plan to drive south 25 miles just to have to turn around and head north again. A phone call when you guys leave would be good for me. I will be waiting like a stalking cop along side the feeder. When I see a bunch of F-bodys drive past, I'll aggressively "catch up" and join the cruise.

EDIT: forgot which board I was on.

I wish you guys were coming by Austin, I'd join up and drive up there with you. You'll be coming up I-45, right. Looks like the nearest place I could join you would be in Buffalo at HYW-79/I-45, a long way from Austin.

I don't think you would have to twist our arm to get us to meet you along the way. We did something similar the first year.

Well, If I were to try and meet up with you guys, about what time would you be you expect to be in the Buffalo Vincenty? Looking at the map, I don't see a good place on the north bound side of I-45 to meet up, but there is some parking on the south bound side.

Google Maps
well if we leave spring at 7:45 to 8:00am we should be in buffalo by 9:20 to 9:45am. with a group it will be a little slower. although the speed is higher. if I were you I would be there by 9:15 to 9:30am. then you can cruise up with us.

You probably could beat us all there. But with your power, we need you to stay near us and represent incase anyone revs at the group of 3rd gens
Two years ago it was a fun cruise, and at one point a few of us took off and got up to a nonsafe speed, just like in this vid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xx1iQ...ature=youtu.be

Later on some other guys chased down a mustang. You never know what could happen this time around.

P.S. what kind of lsx lies under the hood of the car you will bring this year?

Re: Houston Texas Thirdgen Round Up Cruise!

BTW, does anyone have a pyrometer they can bring with us? It would be nice to bring that out at one of the pit stops and check everyone's primary temps on their headers. It would be a general idea of what coatings work the best at keeping temps low. I know that a major factor of primary temps is the air fuel mixture, but most of us have the same fuel systems and same engines and so there should be at least some consistency in those mixtures. I think it would still be something fun and educational to do.

Re: Houston Texas Thirdgen Round Up Cruise!

I'll be hitting the 1/8tg mile Friday. That will be a good test for the TA. Maybe next year and I'll have 2 cars to bring as well.

Sorry to hear about the fuel pump lance. You and your car will be missed. Zone, I am not sure I understand you, but you will not be making it? Also, let us know the 1/8 mile times:P That 7k rpm shift is pretty crazy.

Nope, verified today. A cruise down the road in this heat at 65 has temps climbing to 190 and that's not normal. 165-170 is. Was a short ride in high 80* weather and we all know how much hotter it will be soon. Will cruise ok at night. Dang Trans am nose being sealed is killing me I guess.

You might be right on that one. But before condeming the nose I would suggest something. I realize you might be 2 steps ahead of me here. If so, ignore my post so it doesnt just seem like an insult to your intelligence.

There are lots of firebirds out there that do not overheat. Your's may be a special case, and maybe not just because it has an lsx. What kind of shape is your air dam in? Mine was in bad shape and my car would overheat when cruising in hot summers at around 40-50mph. Going faster would cool it down again. For a while I had taken off the air scoop block off plate, and that made overheating even worse at the cruising speeds. I figure it has to do with making sure the engine bay is a low pressure area to help air to get sucked up into the radiator. Thats why a crapped out lower air dam will cause overheating. The air dam acts like a wind break and stops most air from getting under the engine bay area, funneling it out to the sides of the car, further creating a low pressure area in the engine bay. Also, the engine in stock trim is sucking air out of the engine bay making it that much lower pressure. That low pressure area effectivly sucks up air just in front of the air dam, through the radiator and into the engine bay. I ended up fixing my problems with a tedious air scoop for both the engine and radiator. I'm not suggesting you do that, but just giving you some food for thought to produce a solution. Good luck on whatever you do.

I made a dam out of sheet metal. I am going to try to use a spring setup to apply pressure forward and see if it helps. The metal piece is attatched to the plastic part. So it is not at the needed angle. Otherwise the dual fans are going to get installed if it keeps it up.

The god of weather has smiled on our car show idea. Tomorrow is going to be between 40-70 degrees. That should build a pretty good case against overheating.

Edit:
The meeting place:
Rudys BBQ
20806 Interstate 45
Spring, TX 77373
