Emission help for FL please
I was wondering what type of car inspections / emissions test there are in Miami and keys florida. I am interested in moving there but my 3rd gen would take some work to be inspection / street legal ok. I am in KS now and they have no inspections. I just want to know what to expect / what I might have to change.
thanks

Nothing in Manatee County also..
I actually thought Tampa had it though. Maybe it was Pinellas county that does. I am sure one of them do.

Florida used to have emmisions testing years ago but was terminated by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. There was one county in south Fla. that was the last to end their testing a few years back but I cannot remember which one.
As for the windows here are some excerpts from the Florida Statutes:
316.2953 Side windows; restrictions on sunscreening material.
"...the material has a total solar reflectance of visible light of not more than 25 percent as measured on the nonfilm side and a light transmittance of at least 28 percent in the visible light range. A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318."
316.2954 Windows behind the driver; restrictions on sunscreening material.--
"...when applied to and tested on the rear window glass of the specific motor vehicle, has a total solar reflectance of visible light of not more than 35 percent as measured on the nonfilm side and a light transmittance of at least 15 percent in the visible light range; however, sunscreening material which, when applied to and tested on the rear window glass of the specific motor vehicle, has a total solar reflectance of visible light of not more than 35 percent as measured on the nonfilm side and a light transmittance of at least 6 percent in the visible light range may be used on multipurpose passenger vehicles."
316.29545 Window sunscreening exclusions; medical exemption; certain law enforcement vehicles exempt.--
"The department shall issue medical exemption certificates to persons who are afflicted with Lupus or similar medical conditions which require a limited exposure to light, which certificates shall entitle the person to whom the certificate is issued to have sunscreening material on the windshield, side windows, and windows behind the driver which is in violation of the requirements of ss. 316.2951-316.2957."
Hope this helps clear the air some. Most law abiding shops will not install tinting in violation of the law because they can be held liable if the cause of an acccident was traced to visibility problems due to the tinting.
