I drive my car to the track so Orlando at 2 hours is the farthest I'd be willing to go and race. It takes me 3 hours to get to Tampa, so Brandenton looks to be 3.5-4 hours from Jax.

I wouldn't mind making the drive for the us nationals just to shoot the **** and meet up, I just wouldn't be running my car, I don't have a trailer or tow vehicle.

That 6.5 stock suspension class looks good to me, I just need a rollcage, pickup and trailer.

89gta383, would you be too tempted to drive your 3rd gen to Bradenton and NOT race? LOL
Like I said before, I perfer Bradenton and Orlando is closer so I'm game either way. Bradenton would be easier because my mom lives there and I'v got 4 children.
Hpefully I'll have the turbo in by then otherwise my car won't be going very fast. LOL

My rearend is making more noise now, so if I drive it 3 hours then hose it, I'd hate to have to tow it that far back home.

I failed it by just a couple of points! Had to get a 70, I got 58-68 on the different sections. The one I got a 58 on was short so two more correct answers and would have passed. I'll take it again at the end of Feb. It's ok it is only $135 to take the test and I opted not to take the classes. I'll sign up for a class soon, lol.
It's probably the hardest tests ever taken and I did Honors/AP classes in HS and went to junior college, but this was a monster with 13 books that are one to five inches thick!
The pass rate is 20% for first time takers and 38% pass the second time around.
After that is the hard part of getting the state to grant the license after checking credit, experience, letters of recommendation, proving $20,000 in assets and $10,000 of it in cash, etc, etc...
It's a big pain and expensive, although it will be worth it in the end.
.
As far as the turbo, I haven't got all the parts yet. Still need a Fuel Management Unit(FMU), Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator (AFPR), some more piping and dave's not done with my intercooler yet. Not to mention Christmas eats up some cash flow! My wife said she's going to give me some gift certificates to go for the car.

I plan on running the drag radial class, anyone else plan on going? I am new to the site, is there a hardcore drag racing section?

The drag radial class usually runs in the high 7 second range at about 180 mph. They have a 32 car field and usually 9 second guys like me can squeak in and then get hammered first round. I plan on running my 80 malibu over there, it's lighter than my 3rd gen by quite a bit.
Our local 1/8th mile has a great class for street cars, it's Heads Up .400 pro tree 6.50 index class.
I have alot of info @ www.outlawradial.net

Hey, Tallahassee here. There are a bunch of shows and stuff in Jacksonville and over here in NW Florida we have quite a few local shows in spring and summer. I have a 92 W68 Firebird that I show and cruise with.

I agree drag radial has gotten out of hand, that is why the 6.50 class was developed.
Here's the malibu, it has a grand national 8.5 with moser/aerospace parts, 4.10 w/spool. Factory style suspension with anti roll and 325/50 drag radials.

Here's the 408 that will be in the 3rd gen real soon.

Welcome to TGO!
Wednesdays are tough for me cause I work in West Palm and I need my truck for work and I live in Coral Springs (Broward). For me to go during the week I'd have to come down to get my car and drive back up there, what time on Wed's do you go?

Anyone here from Jax and driving around without a hood?

My parents said they asked somebody if they wanted my old hood in like a Wal-mart parking lot or somewhere, but they said they were fabricating one. Just thought it'd be interesting to see. I'm over near Kernan and Girvin in Jax so it was around there.

I agree, a kid I knew back in High School had a Malibu station wagon and it was built to the max. Had drag radials about the size of yours and would lay 50-60' of rubber out of the parking lot all the time.

Got rained out, but I was able to make one pass:
R/T ... .972
60' ... 2.484
330' ... 7.077
1/8 ... 10.966
MPH ... 63.32
1000 ... 14.322
1/4 ... 17.212
MPH ... 76.21

I felt myself leave late, and I never ran before, so I thought the 1000ft light was the end! I think high 16's are possible in my car if I drove a little better.
.
The best I've heard with a stock 3.1 is 16.8, so I guess I didn't do too bad for a first timer.
.
Next time I'll know what's going on, I was busy trying to get the windows up (slow as *****) when the tree started lighting up.

Possably, I've got four kids so sometimes it's hard for me to get out (then the wife has them all solo). Is it 6-11PM Fridays too?
I didn't get ther on Wed. till about 9pm, got rain after only one pass.
.
You have a good tranny builder? If not I know a good one in Ft.Lauderdale, he rebuilt my tranny a second time in my pick-up (no charge) even though I went over the warranty by over 25,000mi, yes 25,000! I drive about 30,000mi a year, but that was still cool of him.
.
The shop name is Transtech (talk to Dino), if you want I can get their number for you.

I have a tranny builder that i am going to use for the first time. The only thing is that i am bringing my own kit so there is no warranty on the parts.
----------
They are open 6 to 11 on fridays. I understand with the kids and all. Im young with no kids, just a fiance, and its hard for me to make it out there alot but i like to try.

Alonso Transmissions in Miami close to the airport. Family owned and operated for like a million years....about three generations of Alonsos. No one faster, cheaper and more reliable. Thirdgen tranny rebuilt and installed maybe around $700.

Do they give a warranty? If you read post #537 I thought it was pretty cool of him to honor the warranty. Also this was the rebuild for a 1998 F150, don't know if 700r4 parts are any cheaper.

Do any of you Jacksonville people go to the Sonic on Beach Blvd. on Saturday nights? If not, we should to all meet up one weekend. Usually around 150 cars or so there every weekend.

I've been to the Sonic a few times and the Wal-mart before they got kicked out of there.

I hope for your sake that the tranny shop knows how to build a 700r-4, lot's of shops can do a stock rebuild, but can't do any performance rebuilds, even though they will swear up and down that they can build a tranny to handle some power.

This guy is pretty reputable so I am not to worried. He seems to know alot about 700r4s and he has a C4 with a 700r4 so i trust him.

Just posting to check in. Car is back from the shop now, gotta get a windshield still but now I can do all the work on it that still needs to get done so that when I finish off the roll cage it will be set to race.

Firstfirebird, hows the project coming along? Havent heard anything in awhile from you.

I was wondering where you've been as well.
Just trying to gather a few more parts, had to postpone my surgery so the rush isn't as important right now.
.
One good thing happened just yesterday, though. The CGC test I took was scored wrong! I did pass one of the three sections, so I only have to back to do 15hrs in stead of 20!
.
Check out the 660 thread for updates on the purchases for the car.
