Car inspection questions

ANybody living in NC tell me what might make my car not pass inspection down here.I transplanted this one from up north. It has a crate 383 with no smog equipment, and exhaust dumps right in front of the axle. All the lights and signals work along with the horn.
ANy tips?

Re: Car inspection questions

You will encounter a problem. All counties in NC do inspections. Some counties do emissions inspections, but only back to 1995. All counties do a visual inspection to see if the OEM smog equipment is in place. The key is that it has to look like it is working. That's were they will get you. On a pre 95 model and older you can gut the cat, put it back on the car, and pass because it looks factory, but you can't run without a cat. If your car is supposed to have a cat, air injection reactor pump, EGR, PCV, and other items, and it does not have them, than it fails. You may be able to find an independent garage that will do an inspection and not look under the hood. Ask around where you live and work, and maybe someone can recommend a garage that does not check too closely.

Re: Car inspection questions

I didn't have a cat on my car at all when I went to get it inspected b/c the previous owner had removed it. So, the shop stuck me for $400 for a new one. Even if you just buy a shell, have one on there or they'll get you.
