Waving for no reason!!
Anyone find themselves waving or giving some kind of sign to fellow Camaro or Bird owners even if you have no clue who they are, Third gen or otherwise? I gave a thumbs up to a 5th gen SS earlier today, and it occurred to me that there really is an unsaid F-Body family, I know this is off the wall, but thought i would mention it anyway!

Re: Waving for no reason!!
I do it all the time. Wave backs are not even close to say the bike community, but I keep trying for 100%. I wonder if half the owners of 5th's actually know that our cars are kin to theirs.

i do all the time but it mostly because i know all the owners around here. even the 5th gens. and all the guys that i know that have 5th gens have either owned other camaros prior or currently own one. i actually have a friend who owns a 5th gen a 98 hugger orange ss a all original 69 ss down to the paint with only 70xxx and a 69 that was originally a sixxer but now has a drag motor in it. its a street car that runs 10's lol.

i have found alot of 4th genners dont. most 4th gen cars you see out now are people using them for transportation and dont view them like we do. i find many more 3genners pass the salute back.

Here's a link to a list of car shows in KY that I found.

When and where is Thirdgen fest? I've heard of it, never been though.

Re: Waving for no reason!!
It's a common phenomenon in the motorcycling world that brings a sense of community and camaraderie to people who otherwise wouldn't give each other a second look. It's a wonderful thing and I think it'd be great to extend that to a car community subset (ie thirdgen drivers).
I don't see it happening though, as the majority of the cars on the road are "transportation" and not a "passion" for their respective drivers.

I typically do for all f-bodies, though for 4th's sometimes I won't if it looks like a "transportation" car or depending on my mood. I get wavebacks fairly often. There is definitely an inherent community in F-body enthusiasts.

Re: Waving for no reason!!
I can't stand it when motorcycles in front of me give that one hand salute. I always think they are giving the left hand turn signal sign and I hurry up to pass them, then they keep going straight and I look like a big dummy.

Re: Waving for no reason!!
Seen a grey and black third gen today on Taylorsville road here in Kentucky, wonder if he or she is a member here on TGO. I waved either way, the windows on the grey third gen were blacked out, so couldn't tell if they waved or not.

Re: Waving for no reason!!
We usually give and get waves from other Wrangler drivers. I've only seen a few other 3rd Gens around here and get a wave once in awhile from them. I also like to salute any classic car we see on the road with the exception of snotty Mustang drivers!

Re: Waving for no reason!!
Actually, guys, as a former 'Vette owner, I can tell you that this was quite common among Corvette owners. When I subscribed to "Corvette Fever", there were lots of mentions of "the wave" in every issue. I don't see many thirdgens around here, but the thing is, it is customary here in VA to wave any time you drive by someone on the road. It was one of the things I had to learn about local culture when I moved here.

Re: Waving for no reason!!
I dont mean to butt in on y'alls thread but I like the topic.
Anytime I see another thirdgen owner I always wave, but then again I was always taught that its just something you do to people, so whenever Im on a side street or just driven down the road I always wave at everyone that comes my way. Once I get into town it gets a bit harder so I just look for people I know. Idk for some reason I think it has some sort of respect in it, brings back the times when everyone knew each other and everyone was prtty respectful. I grew up in a small town, its just one of the things I love about small towns

Re: Waving for no reason!!
I've waved many times
and never gotten a wave back....well I did get one from a 5th gen but that is one out of tons. Basically there is not much of this around here I think people are to self centered about there car to show a salute to others and that truthfully sucks
