First timer here that needs some help/direction.

Hey everyone, first time here but found out about this board when searching stuff about a '89 Camaro RS 305 V8. Anyways a guy up the street from me has a '89 Camaro RS 305 V8. He's selling it because he doesn't have enough money to fix it so i'm trying to get it out his way. His craigslist ad is below and he want $1200.

I am selling my 1989 Camaro RS with two sets of T-Tops (one for summer that is painted white to block sunlight and another for when its not too hot. It is not in the best of condition right now has two dents on minor in the passenger side front finder and a major one on the back drivers side fender. It also is not running correctly at the moment either needs a new timing chain put in or a new bearing somewhere i do have the chain just no time to see if that is the issue, and also has a bad rear end on it. Those are all the major problems with this car i just dont have the time or money to fix them or I would keep it. It has the 5.0L engine and a R700 automatic transmission.

I'm suppose to go check out the car this weekend but i don't know how much i should offer. I asked to take it for a spin and he said it runs, just not well. Also, i would like to do some mods. So what would you guys suggest i start with? Besides getting a tune up and fixing the existing problems. I have about 6 grand to play with.

Sorry for the long post but i hope someone can help me out here. Thanks everyone!

Re: First timer here that needs some help/direction.

Given the stated problems I would say that $1200 is in the ball park of what it's worth. That being said, look at the problems areas (floor pans, rear wheel wells, cargo area, between the t-tops) for rust and other damage.

I just sold my 86 IROC two days ago for $1700 here in Nebraska and it sounds like it was in better condition than the one you're looking at. Mine ran great but looked like hell cosmetically.

Throw him a low number, say $700-$800, and see if he bites? Good Luck!

Personally with the problems it has i would move along. You can get a better car for the money, or drop around 3k on a car in great shape. If you want something to fix up i would at least look for something with a straight body

Agree, lowball. I would probably even go lower than that.
