I have had enough t-top cars in my life that I will never own another one again.......

but it had nothing to do with the rotted out t-top bar.... it was that damn drip on my leg while driving through any amount of rain that finally did me in..... gah

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

Damnit man! I burned up my 3-4 clutchpack cause I forgot to unlock the TC when passing. Also fried the TC.

Didn't realize it till it started shuddering and by then it was too late. Still got 1st and 2nd though.

Hopefully $150 will be enough and I will have to pick up a TC when I get the funds. Hoping Dana will work something out with me on parts...

I got rid of a trans for our cars not even 3 months ago. Lol. My TC has never locked up at any point in the entire time I have owned the car. I wish I had a lead on a 5 speed swap, I'd give you my trans then.

Lol, thanks. I am hoping to get out of this on the cheap. Everything else on the trans was working great too. Hopefully I can pick up the clutches, new separator plate and an overhaul kit. Plus the TC and fluid and be done. Gotta do it myself, thankfully I can fabricate the tools needed to get it done.

I can also vouch for the guy in Land O Lakes. Very reasonable. Here is one of his CL ads.

I think that guy got banned on here, supposedly never shipped parts. I guess if you deal locally you don't have that issue.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

Ended up not going to FL2K last night. Instead at 1215am i went to the Riverview publix and it was empty. By 1230, there were probably 50 to 60 cars. Many of which were high hp cars. Im sure today at FL2K was pretty awesome.

T5 Rebuild...
I've read you don't need any presses, and can pretty much do it with basic tools... I saw a DVD on ebay, and there is a manual floating around too (free)...

Astro Performance sells parts, upgraded ones too in Tavares FL, less than 2 hours north east of FL... or they can probably sell you a whole fresh tranny...

Dunno, I'm planning on pulling the carb and installing a HSR with a Megasquirt ECM. But at the rate my trans is dying it might get put in as soon as possible.

Yup. I've got all the brackets and accessories already. I'm gonna pick up a set of headers, a nice aluminum 3 core radiator, probably an electric water pump.

Bone stock rebuild.

From what I've read they aren't bad for street/road course use either, that said, I've had issues with cooling with the V6 since I've owned the car. I'm going to remedy those issues with the V8 one way or another.

Keep in mind, I have seen threads where a mild v8 couldn't be cooled properly with a 3 core, a couple of those were due to the extra core. Could have been isolated incidents, but the 2 core all alum Silla I dropped in my car 4 years ago works great!

Just an observation.

Also if the electric water pump reduces parasitic loss on the drivetrain for drag racing I am sure it would give a slight increase in mileage on the street. What that slight increase would be is anyones guess.

That's what I was thinking, I've been looking at all aluminum 2 core radiators, and electric water pumps. I'd rather do all the mods I want to the motor now, before it goes in instead of doing it all later.

Internals will all stay the same, I'm not going that far on this motor.

Sounds like a good plan of action, that way everything you need for the swap will get covered before the swap, then you won't have to replace stuff once the motor is in. I think I paid $140 for my rad on ebay, didn't have to modify a thing either. Though now it seems that it can be hit or miss on there.

Yeah, I've noticed there aren't many options anymore. I hear Champion makes good radiators, I'm going to have to take a look at those.

You guys will not believe this ****. I got a job with Orange County, I put my two weeks in, did the drug test, they called today to tell me they decided to hire someone else. So this means any and all work on either the Camaro or the Mercedes is stopping.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

A drug test usually is a sign that you are hired. Aside from that, did you do any paperwork?

When I was hired at Publix they told me to put my two weeks in and gave me the time needed to fulfill it.

You should be able to call someone so you can expain the situation. Maybe they can help. That or try to get hired back on where you were(may be difficult since you were leaving).

You should be able to call someone so you can expain the situation. Maybe they can help. That or try to get hired back on where you were(may be difficult since you were leaving).
I did some upfront paperwork in addition to the drug test.

I asked why, but all they said was they went with someone else. Wouldn't give me an answer. My current position is a contract position but they've already brought on a replacement for me and I've trained him. My supervisor wants to keep me, but that may not be possible. I'm more upset that I can't continue with the restoration of the Mercedes than I am losing the position.

Its whatever, bitching and moaning doesn't get me anywhere. I'll just send my resume out to other places.

So this 327 I bought, is a 327/350 out of a 66 Corvette. So that's really lifted my spirits.

Well, at least the block is. The heads are a 624 casting, so they are later than what the block is. Either way, I'm happy I finally got a V8.

That's awesome RubbaD.

I may be picking up a 6.0/auto out of an Escalade soon. Would like a t56 instead but will make do with the auto for now. Maybe start that beginning of next year.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

Hey everyone,
I didn't read all the posts, but I live in the Tampa Bay area and am interested in attending gatherings that you may have. I just recently reacquired my IROC that I sold back in 04, after 10 years of kicking myself in the **** and a 1800 mile move she's back in my garage! She runs and drives but I am going to give her a restore starting with a full Hotchkiss suspension replacement aside from that it will focus on keeping her numbers matching. Need to do a lot of research on how to maximize hp out of the stock 350 and the tpi, the motor will get a rebuild and modifications but block and heads will stay numbersmatching. I look forward to making some local third generation friends glad to have found this post.

Re: Official Tampa, FL Area Thread

You guys ever get bored of your car? I feel like after 5 years I'm just bored of my Camaro, even with a V8 I don't feel like it will be any better. What do you guys think?

I got kinda bored. Then I put a turbo on it, lol. With the tuning its never boring. Not being able to drive it? Thats boring.

When you get through the swap, itll be new again, then when it gets boring, add a turbo. When that gets boring, swap for a bigger turbo/go twins. When thats boring, add nitrous, etc...

See where I'm going with that? Lol. Don't forget the suspension/drivetrain upgrades, there in there somewhere.

Is the v6 the only motor you have had in the camaro?

The lack of power is boring, but then I take a turn in it and it's not boring anymore.

Yup. Although the first 2.8 I put in it I never tired of maybe that's because I was in high school. 3.4 has been a pain since it went it. I really feel like I won't be happy with it until I can get it to where I want it.

Yeah, the V8 will make the car an entirely different animal.
