Have you put a fuel pressure guage on it? Are the plugs wet when you take them out?

the plugs r good,i pulled on n turned it over n i had spark. i dont have a fuel pressure tester,i hafta get one before i can mes w/ it. im really leaning towards the ecm. cause since i got the car like 3 yrs ago once n a while it wouldnt start n then it just would b fine. so i think the ecm finally went out on me, when i run the diagnostic it doesnt sound to good. thanx for replyin chris

You say that occasionally it will start? I have a fp guage, if you need that. Also you may want to get a noid tester. That will let you know if your injectors are getting power, which in turn could help you determine if it is truly your ecm.

I know they can retrieve the codes, but don't know if they can tell you definitively thats the problem.

Also, check all the fuses especially the one(s) near the radiator and make sure you didn't blow any. Look at them all! That's what mine 89's problems was, although mine wouldn't fire at all. You could have a leaking injector giving a cylinder or two enough fuel to cough over.

GL!

Maybe your coil or module is fried. Seems if they were they might spark for a little bit, but then they'd crap out. You could also check for a voltage at the injectors, that might tell you if the injectors are gettting a signal to squirt.

thats what im thinking, i checked the module 3 times at autozone n it tested good, but ive heard of them testing ok but not working still. i avhe a wire going from the coil to somewhere on the back of the engine that loox like its in bad shape,so im gonna mess w/ it also. where do i get a noid tester? or do i gotta buy one so i can check if the injectors are getting voltage?

I've seen it at autozone in the tools section. It's a little light. Follow this link, they have a decent picture.

Did you check the fuses yet?

yeah,i checked all the fuses and everything is good. i took out my ecm to just look at the prom and whatnot, and i autozone doesnt test them unless their in the car,oh well. the prom wasnt burnt out or anything but what do i know about that crap. ill go get that tester tomorrow. the only other thing i can think of is that the ignition control thing that sends the signal to the ecm to fire the injectors is not working. im lost, but im havin fun lookin at all this stuff, i found a wire sensor connector near the tranny though, jsut a single wire,it hasnt been connected since i got the car,i ahve no clue what it is. and i dont get any trouble codes or anything....

Sounds like the fuel pump. Mine did the same thing only I was going like 70MPH and the car acted like I shut it off. Then it would start, and die. Try a shot of ether and see if it'll run longer that way. My money is on the fuel pump. Trust me on this, if it is the pump, get a dealer Delco one or a good aftermarket performance one. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT get one at a parts house like Auto Zone or Checker.

Your pump is bad. Are you going to go in-line or replace the in-tank pump?

I don't know 100%. I've been told that you can do an In-line pump, but maybe someone with more knowledge in another area on the board could say definitevly.
