AZ Emissions

I just recieved my reg renewal forms in the mail and the car has
to go through emissions. The car doesn't have the smog pump
and I just got a set of headers (?Headman?) with
the air rails on them. Can I plug the rails?

I was told that California residents only need the smog pump.
Has anyone passed the AZ emissions with just the cat?

I'm installing a new 3" inch exhaust with a hi-flow cat.
So any help would be great.

Also, does anyone know any tricks around changing out the
stock carb for an Edelbrock carb?
My carb has the electric plug in's on it and the check light
says the TPS is bad ($150). I'd like to go with an Edelbrock,
but if I disconnect the plug in's from the stock carb, I'll have
the check light on. Are there any ways around this?

i passed with no cat, my headers have A.I.R. but is capped, and i dotn have any emissiosn stuff hooked up. does this mean u will pass.. maybe.. maybe not.. it all depends on how efficent ur engine is. u get 2 trys when u go to emmisions.. so id just hook up the cat and try once.. see what happens.. dont say anythign, and if they tell u somethign isnt hooked up.. just acted surprised. then.. if u fail the first time.. call mike @ azautoamsters , 480-592-9677, and have him check out ur car. he will get it to pass.

I talked to Jason from AZ Automasters yesterday (Sunday) and
he said they could get me set up with the exhaust.
Do you know how good the workmanship is there?

I was supposed to have a co-worker help me redo my exhaust,
but that fell through. So I'll have to take it to a shop. I've only
been to Mesa Muffler, who installed my Flowmaster muffler and
tips, which was a good experience.

Thanks.

well to help pass emissions u can back off the timing some, back off the idle some and pour some alchohol in ur tank. you want the air tubes hooked up so your egr crap worx, if the egr dont work, you wont pass the NoX part of the emisions.

I just passed mine. I have an aftermarket carb setup so it was pretty easy to tune mine for emissions. Im not sure how it is for a computer controlled carb. I also passed with no cat and A.I.R system. Reason beibng my car was a V6 that hadn't come with an A.I.R. system so after I did the swap I didnt need one for emissions.

Dont forget Mike....your car has Vortec heads on it. You have to figure out how to rig up your EGR so you pass NOx. Also...like ive been telling you, hook up you air pump, youll need it.

Yeah I just bought the smog pump and belt today.
Hopefully this Saturday I'll have the exhaust installed.
I bought a 10 foot piece of 3" pipe and a 3" cat.
But I'll try the test before I put the smog pump in, just to see what happens.

Why are you so against putting your air pump on and doing it right? Your tags are due up at the end of this month. If I were you, id be trying to get that thing to pass the right way instead of half-assing it. I told you I'd help you with it. I thought you were stopping by my house this Saturday so we can get it going and I can give you those door panels. Dont forget about your EGR. Keep in mind that is not a stock LG4 in there anymore, youre gonna need all the help you can get when you take it through. Just gimme a call tonight. I get home at around 5:30. Call anytime after that. Later.

I'm considering going without the computer crap. It'll be much
easier to setup and tune just right. No computer to tell me that
it fails or passes then.
