looking for a 3rd gen

anyone wanna trade me a 3rd gen with decent mileage, v8 and a 5spd? i might consider a automatic if its got the 350 and an exhaust or headers, i'd rather have a 5spd though, I would be willing to trade straight across for my 1994 v6 camaro. I could meet them halfway, thank you, i can provide pictures its got 159,000 with the motor rebuilt at 135,000 new alternator, starter, radiator, battery, fuel pump, clutch, throwout bearing and others.

I know a guy who would trade (Most likely) for his Z-28. See other post on here. You would have to travel, though.

Re: looking for a 3rd gen

No offense dude, but you are in no position to choose which V8 to trade for. You drive a V6 and you are demanding it be running V8, and demanding it have a 5spd but you will SETTLE for an auto if it's a modded 350?? This better be the holy grail of V6 camaros. And you will only trade STRAIGHT UP??!! If anything you should give money in trade because you want their car, not the other way around. 3.4L camaros aren't worth a straight trade for a V8 car, unless it's a white firebird with a GN motor in it, which you clearly don't have.

Sorry. And again, not to be a ****, but you are dreaming.

I have to agree... This is one of the rarest thirdgens made! (The best info I can find suggests that there were 11 of these made with the cross-fire 350) A friend of the family who works for a popular auto auction states that in 5-10 years and restored to good condition, this car could bring a lot at auction. (She speculated, 30,000 to 50,000, depending on a lot of different factors)
As stated earlier, I would pick this car up myself, but I already have too many projects and I really dont buy these cars to "Collect" them. Bad investments for the most part.

third gens arent worth much you can find them for $1500, my car is a lot newer, maybe someone just wanted a newer car.

That can be true, but keep in mind; Every v-8 thirdgen that I have ever bought for under $2,000 either didnt run, or needed a LOT of work!!!
Besides, where you live they arent that common for any money!
There are exceptions to the rule, but lets face it, these cars are getting hard to find in decent condition.

FWIW 1993-1996 V6 Camaro's are a dime a dozen.

You can buy them all day long for $1500-1800. And that's in good shape.

But when your looking at the V8 models the price almost doubles on the same car. Same rules apply for the V6 3rd gen versus the V8...everyone wants a V8.

Just because your car is a few years newer than most third generations (yes just a few years) doesn't make it worth that much more.

Something to think about

TRUE. Mine was going for $2000 but i got it for $1800, the motor ran strong it had a nice interior and body minus the 2 primer panels but ive put tons of work into my car over the past 2 years and somehow the motors a hell of a lot better but my body went to crap lol

Anyway fact of the matter is odds are against you with the straight up deals, im sure there is someone in that position but still, i dust 3.4'ss every day around here, and ive only got the 305TBI, fortunately most thirdgen owners are loyal and having to go to a 4th gen from our cars is hard, i could never do it, especially for the loss of 2 cylinders and it wasnt the best part of the 4th gens to be honest, square lights and awkard 90's styling, they only got good in 98+ IMO If you had the better body style then you might be in a bargaining position but its still doubtful

Fact of the matter is you either find a clean amazing thirdgen, or you see a thirdgen where the driver spent over half his time under the car fixing it. My room mate got his 89 GTA with blown piston rings and since that title has been in his name we havent stopped working on it, its not bad but i like to think of it as the thirdgen curse. FOr what youre asking youre gonna get the later of the two, if you cant handle the work and the suprise parts store runs then maybe its not the best choice to get one

Well said, dude! It's not what they are actually selling for. $2,500 is what they are putting in the paper, but we all know that the asking price and what they actually get for the car are two different things! I mean really, who dosent haggle the price? Look, fourthgens are nice if you dont like to work on your cars. (The v-6's anyways. Somebody please shoot me if I EVER buy another car with the LT-1 again!!)
As far as styling goes, nothing looks like a thirdgen. From the side a 4thgen looks like a cavalier or sunfire.

All I know is when I was looking for another car to play with and did a search on auto trader, you would find a 5:1 ratio on V6 versus V8 cars.

This was both 3rd and 4th generation Camaros. All the V6 cars were typically cheaper by about $600-1000 compared to the V8 of that same style.

I couldn't tell you how many 3rd generation RS v6's I seen I came close to settling because I could get a V6 in better condtion than the V8 (in my price range).

Re: looking for a 3rd gen

Yeah. I bought my RS 4 years ago (V-6) in running condition with 91,000 miles, working air conditioning and in awesome condition! (I bought it from the original owner.) Drove it for about a year as a daily driver and then the tranny went. Swapped in a LS-1 and built 700r4 (Later swapped to t56) and the rest is history. I only paid 600.oo for it. I feel like I did well.
