23110. (a) Any person who throws any substance at a vehicle or any
occupant thereof on a highway is guilty of a misdemeanor.

if you were caught littering:

1)the courts will not go easy
2)the fines are steep
3)judges have to enforce the laws because of environmentalists
4)misdemeanor stay on your record for 10 years.

luckily it was not a moving vilation (like the one i got) and since a cigarette is relitivily small it did not impose a danger. maybe since it did not impose a danger the referee will bring it down to an infraction. however i would happen to know (never personally paid one) that the fines are expensive.

<b>ALSO</b>
this ticket is somewhat fightable. the accusing officer has to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the piece of material came from your car (if other cars were around), it was indeed a cigar or cigarette, and THAT IT WAS LIT. if he cannot prove it was a cigar or cigarette then it probably was not lit. If he can prove that how does he know it was lit. If it was night and he saw sparks when it hit the ground then your screwed.

that is exactly what happened. it happened about 10PM. they were two motorcycles behind me ,I think I almost cought'em on fire. I did not see'em at all. He wrote down "23111 vc cigarette upon roadway"

Am I dead? As in judge, flying book, and my forehead crashing to the ground? :lala:

WWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHOAAAAAAAAAAAA the cig hit one of the officers? your lucky they didnt really try to get you in deep ****. but as far a littering(including cigs) i heard that cali is so strict because of the environmentalist activists. this makeds the judges have to go kindy hard and through the book at you MOST OF THE TIME. one word <b>BEG</b> that he goes easy and tell him it will not happen again.

Today I went to court for a littering ticket. well the retail price is $1000.00 but the judge gave me a deal that i couldn't pass up. I had to pay only $321.00 and it is not going on my driving record. I was so glad, the court went easy on me. :lala: :lala: :lala: :lala:

Yeah, just goes to show how messed up our court system is, I got a ticket for doing criminal speeding (93mph in a 55 zone), wreckless endangerment, and unsafe speed due to weather, (had rained earlier in the day) and my ticket including traffic school elegablilty was $183, you tossed a cig out the window and payed double that...

FYI when someone steals your registration and tags out of your mailbox and you get pulled over oblivious to the fact that your tags are expired and so is your registration, that costs about $74.20 if you fix it within a month.

It isn't just environmentalists. We average about 13 inches of rainfall per year in the Los Angeles metro area. In the deserts just over the mountains, it is less than 6". Throw a lighted cig out the window in the wrong spot and you can start a wild fire that can burn an area measured in square miles. Reggie Jackson lost a collection of 60's and 70's muscle cars in a wild fire in the hills of Oakland a few years ago.

Well, it's cool to hear the fine wasn't too harsh on you, but at the same time I have to say it irritates me to see people toss their cigarettes out the on the ground.

I'd love to be able to stop, pick it up, then catch up to them in traffic and say "You dropped something" and toss it right back in their window.

If ya gotta smoke, put it out in the ash tray, then dump it in the trash when you get home.

I'll get off the soap box now.

You know, I hope you don't throw anymore cigarettes, or anything else out the window after this.

One day, you will own your own home (if you don't already) and you will curse the SOB's that throw sh#t out their windows for you to clean up that make your neighborhood look like ****e.

AFAIC, you got what was coming to you.

And no, I am not an environmentalist but that doesn't mean I sh$t in wherever I feel like it.
