Need help with Smog Test.
So I failed the smog check and I was wondering if there was anyone in the San Diego area who could provide some technical assistance. I posted in the General forum and this is what they came up with.

Maybe someone know of a smog place that is pretty..... ummm.... lenient. The only part the car failed was the 15mph NOx and I'm having some trouble navigating my way around the components (ie. what some crap is) I guess I need to replace the EGR valve, judging by the code. Anyone got a timing light????

Test HC(ppm) CO(%) NOx(PPM)
max meas max meas max meas
15 mph 108 87 0.71 0.15 767 839 Fail
25 mph 83 72 0.58 0.23 706 633 Pass
Timing is set a 6 BTDC and I keep getting code 32 when I retrieve the codes from the computer. EGR failure from what I'm told, so maybe a bad vacuum line to the EGR or bad EGR..... I don't know
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

It's probably the EGR valve. They like to get clogged up with carbon after so many miles and won't work properly. Also, the inner diaphram gets weak due to age and won't allow the EGR pintle to retract all the way. It's usually a combination of the two.
Before you go replacing the valve or the soleniod though, first check to see if the hard plastic vacuum lines under the plenum leading to the valve, solenoid and the TB ports are connected and in good shape. They tend to get brittle and sometimes crack allowing vacuum leaks.

Could be the EGR solenoid too.
If its not working, that could cause the high NOx. You'll want to get that fixed.

That picture shows what it looks like and where it is mounted on a 'vette.
If you look at it, right behind the wires you will see a little piece of foam that covers a port, it gets dirty and then the valve sticks.
Remove the foam and clean the whole thing with carb cleaner.
