Boy, that was a long and not to insightful read.
It looks like the Fireturd is dead and buried though.
Did you read the part where they said the initial SS model will be a 5.3L engine and a few years later they will come out with a bigger Z28 model with perhaps a 6.0 L engine. I feel sorry for the people who get impatient and spring for the initial version (Kind of like the initial release of the GTO with an LS1 instead of the '05 w/ the LS2)

Well, I guess GM figures that the initial release of the Camaro will sell like hotcakes no matter what pig of an engine (327) they stick in there just because people will want to be the first on their block to own a 5th gen.
But then when that first wave of interest dies down, they will unleash the real performance Z28 shiznit with a real engine to get people excited again.

I remember when the first 3rd gen came out in '82, I was in junior high at the time, man I thought that was such a bitchin' car. Then the IROC came out, then the 'vert came out, then the firehawk came out, etc. etc. Then I looked back at the '82 and wondered what the hell I ever saw in that model (crap-fire injection, laughable performance, no spoilers, no ground effects, etc.) Cali92 is absolutely correct.

Talk about having a problem with not selling enough models... They'll have the GTO, Cobalt, Camaro, and Corvette? If they bring the 5th gen to life, the Cobalt's gonna have a short run.

Yeah but there are no plans to bring back the Firebird which means the Camaro or whatever it would be if they bring it back - from what I have heard from people working at GM the Camaro name has been retired, but anways that would be the market for the Pony Class sports coupe, the Cobalt has it's niche for the sport compact class, seeing as how the Cav doesn't have a true sport model, so the GTO would be a class over the new 'Camaro' mostly due to pricing and options, and of course the Vette for those who want and can afford GM muscle in a class all it's own
