CHP air force

I taped last nights 11pm news, Paul Moyer did a thing on the CHP.
What they showed was on the 5 around valencia and the grapevine.
They had 4 ground units and one plane.
The plane files at 1000 ft and is usually 1/8 of a mile behind the car its clocking.
The air patrol gets over 33,000 speeders a year. The CHP has the largest police air force in the US.
Moyer described this a shooting fish in a barrel.
The pilot showed how he tracks and times vehicles. He puts the wing strut on the car and sets his air speed to the car and times between the 1 mile markers. He stated that he never takes is eyes off the vehicle until the ground unit stops the car. He then said he can track more than one car at a time. So he must have invididually controlled eyes.
They regulary track cars doing 90.

A ticket for 100mph $1700

$1700 bucks? Yikes! If they're so concerned about people speeding (yeah right!), they should lower the speed limit back down to 55mph.lol!

Imagine all the revenue the CHP could make if it was still 55mph. Since they raised it to 65mph and up to 70-75mph on some stretches, doing 90-100mph is not much faster than the flow traffic sometimes. I regularly see people going 85-90mph all the time. In fact, I believe they raised the speed limit up to 80mph in certain parts of Texas.

I just wish the police choppers would be required to fly at a 1,000ft altitude minimum or something. They like to fly low around here buzzing the neighborhoods with their propeller blades and it pisses me off. It feels like I'm living in a warzone and they do this several times a week as well.

I haven't noticed any of this. I dont even know anyone who has been pulled over like this. I live in the same valley as Valencia, **** I even go to school out there using the 5 North and I haven't seen this. I've heard a little here and there, but no physical/visible proof.

The CHP is pretty fair on the average. There are pretty cool for the most part but there are times when they have to make a statement. That's just the way it goes. I drove from Tacoma, WA to Portland, Oregon a couple weeks ago and must have seen 25+ cars pulled over (seriously...25 cars pulled over in 2 hours). Now that is a speed trap. The speed limits change from 60-65-55-60-65-etc. Now that is unfair and got me nervous as I am used to doing 75-80 with little/light traffic.

I've gotten a ticket for that the stated speed was 90-110 and it was less then $250 but I fought it and eventually got my money back.

That just means those people have been lucky and not been caught.

I blew thru Barstow at 80+ going to Vegas one time and a CHP parked on the side of the road nailed me. As soon as I passed him, on came his turn signal and he merged onto the highway. He then paced me for a short distance before stopping me.

He told me he had me on radar going close to 85. I tried to use the excuse that I was keeping pace with traffic. He just asked for my license and said he'd be right back. A few minutes later, I was handed a speeding ticket. He did knock it down to 80mph though.

Posted speed limit thru that area is 75mph. $90 fine.

This is one of the reasons the CHP uses the low profile Camaros (all white, small light bar) in that area. To catch speeders and truckers.

I was suprised to see a black and white CHP Camaro just the other day. I live close to the local CHP station (DeSoto Ave., just off the 101 Fwy) and as I was passing by one afternoon, the Camaro was in the lane next to me and swung into the station.

I didn't think they were any Camaros used in my area (mainly residential/commuter traffic). Typically, they are up on the 5 and 14 where the main trucking lanes are.
