Don's and Allen's look more like the top version. They've replaced everything from the throttle body to the air filter. The bottom link still uses the factory rubber boot.
Re: Anyone using this intake set-up?...
I guess no one uses the factory two into one over the rad filter box? It was suggested earlier on another thread that some of you SoCal guys were running a modified factory housing but it seems that some of the quicker cars ( Dyno Don for example ) have opted for aftermarket parts.
Anyone ever flow test a factory piece?

The piece I linked to is for the Firebird bretheren. I'll probably pick up one of the set-ups off eBay. At the very least, it looks much better than the factory intake tubing. The open air filter element will also be a help over the stock "can" with the small opening.
Re: Anyone using this intake set-up?...
I remember reading an ad in a magazine(5+years ago) about an aftermarket ramair systrem that fit in the fog light wells of the IROC Camaros and ducted fresh air inti the twin air filter elements.
I've never seen it since. Can't find it on the internet either.
It consisted of a couple of black plastic scoops that attached to some ducting. Then there was a piece that adapted to the filter housing.
Anybody recall seeing this?

I used to have the top one. It's not bad, but it's made out of that cheap tubing from the rice-rocket section at Pep-Boys. The fit wasn't the greatest--You'd be better off just buying the pipes and making it yourself.

Is this what you're referring to?

Yeah, definitely looks like the parts from the Tuner aisle at Pep Boys. I just wasn't sure that I could piece one together myself for the same price as eBay. I'll probably swing by PB over the weekend just to see what's there and gauge the quality.

Bret,
I don't remember his name now, but the guy who was in the club for about a year while stationed at the naval hospital at LeMoore and met us at one of our runs up to Atascadero to Jason's house had one of those pipes on his T/A. I asked him about it and he said it was for a Honda. I don't remember if it was speed density or if he had a maf on his car, but if he did have a maf, it was mounted on the front of the throttle body, not in the pipe.
Don made his out of mandrel bent u tubes cut to fit and welded together with straight pipes and then sent it out for powder coating. I don't know if he would have time to make another one or not. You would have to contact him. I know he has a list of engines to build, but remember that he needs some small jobs to keep paying the rent while building engines.

The kit on eBay does say that it is made of mandrel bent aluminum. Anything Pep Boys will carry will most likely be the ABS plastic modular intake pieces made by Spectre. At around $10 per piece, there's no way to beat the eBay price. Not to mention that I don't want ABS parts. The aluminum is definitely the way to go.
I'm going to be working on installing my new radiator soon and figured I'd update the intake tubing while I was at it.
