Mechanic/Help needed

Anybody willing to come help me diagnose/fix my camaro or know of a good mechanic that will come to my house?

Symptoms: car turns on after a few seconds it dies out, then it wont turn back on.

I want to get my iroc back on the streets!!!

Do you have a check engine light on? If so you need to learn how to check the codes. My first thought is a mass air flow sensor.

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

Code 12 is ecu or ecu code error. remove your ecu unplug your battery and remove the ecu. take out the prom. install the prom back plug in the ecu an plug the battery back an try to start the car.

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

Wrong..code 12 means the ecm is communicating. Check spark and fuel.

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

If it's vats, I would imagine the car wouldn't fire in the first place.

First of all, what year/engine? Is this the car you have listed in your profile?

I had a similar problem with a 91 formula. Turned out to be computer related: As mentioned above, see if you can get another computer/chip from a car with the same engine/trans combination, plug that in, and give it a shot.

Good luck.

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

So I started working on it today and it wouldn't start at all. I took off the cpu/prom tried to start it and it still wouldn't start. So I'm thinking it could be vats

Yeah its a 88 iroc 5.7

Check your key, no pill, no VATS (pill, little black button on the key)

You could always tow it to me.

Well that rules out vats.

If I can't figure it out I would have no other choice.

Same thing happened to mine it would start after a few cranks run for about 5-10 seconds and you couldnt start it back up for a good two hours. It happened to need a fuel pump.

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

I have AAA taking it there is not the issue. The problem is that its currently non-op and it needs a gold certifited smog check, can you also fix it so it could pass smog don? I also need to know about how much it is to fix to see if I have enough money. I don't want to tow it and then have to tow it back because I can't afford to get it fixed. If I take it to don I want to come out of his shop track ready. lol (at least running solid)

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

I'll check the fuel pump/fuel pressure tomorrow see if that's the issue.

Thanks for the input

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

It might be the fuel pump I used the aldl link to check it and I can't hear it turn on. The. Fuse is good is there any other thing I could check to make sure its that before trying to replace it?

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

Get a fuel pressure gauge and hook it up to the fuel rail and see what the pressure is reading.

You can unplug the relay and jump the two end wires, that will make the pump run if it will. (orange & Tan) The fuel pump relay is the square one.

As far as cost....that is hard to say until we know what it is.

Re: Mechanic/Help needed

How long have you owned this car, and did you get it with the supercharger or did you install it. What kind of power does it make, when it's running?
