My Car Passed Smog Today at a Star Station

With the new cats it passed. They looked at the headers and saw the air tubes after I told them they were SLP headers. They asked for the bar code for them. Of course I didn't have it but they went on anyway and test it. They didn't look under the car nor pinch off the air tube that goes to the canister. Here are the results.

Is There a Cutoff Year When Cars Reach A Certain Age They No Longer Require An Emission Test In CA? Out Here When They Reach 20 Years It's No Longer Required.

No cut off year. If it has cats it must be smog. Only 1974 and earlier doesn't have to be tested.

I'm in Riverside County. Less population than Los Angeles County. This may be the difference to where your car is registered.

How are those numbers so low? Is it the tune, or just the cats?

Re: My Car Passed Smog Today at a Star Station

I failed my smog on Saturday. Over by 5 hydrocarbons at the 15 mph test. They were about to give me crap about my SLP headers until I showed them the C.A.R.B. label under the hood that SLP sent me. I don't know about the rest of you but have you ever got any mess from the smog guys that the fuel filler pipe won't allow their own caps to fit for some pressure test? They were insisting that mine was worn or I replaced it. I told them it was not worn and that my new stant fuel cap fits perfectly. $50 to be told that I failed.

I agree. On my test, maximum amount allowable at 15 mph was 83 and I got 88. Maybe a difference for fuel injection and carbureted models?

Re: My Car Passed Smog Today at a Star Station

Before I go back, i'm going to remove my EGR, carb and used these engine cleaning brushes I ordered from Summit and try to clean out some carbon from the intake manifold passages.

I did it years ago with a long piece of clothes hangar wire and a vacuum cleaner which worked great. Using the brushes this time as to not mess up the intake manifold. Hopefully it will do the job again.

Re: My Car Passed Smog Today at a Star Station

Ok, now that answers one question if it matters if you car is fuel injection or not.

So if someone knows then why the "random" max numbers, please chime in. I'm sure we are all curious now.

I don't think they are random. One set of max numbers is for the 5.7 cars, one set for the 5.0 cars and one set for v6 cars.

Not sure about that as in post #1 & post #19 both have 5.7 & 5.9 litre engines and both have different max numbers.

He may have a 5.7 but the car was originally a v6, so it's going to test with those numbers per the VIN.

My car was tested with a bone stock L98 5.7 with SLP 1 3/4in headers, dual cats and 3in catback. Don't go by my sig in post #1. The new California cats help big time making the car pass smog.

Re: My Car Passed Smog Today at a Star Station

Well we have the same headers but I have a single 3" cat. I'm going to get a new one before I go back and replace the O2 sensor just to be safe. I have have screwed it up when I seafoamed the car a bit back now that I think about it.
