stripped lug nut
i had a set of rear tires put on the car and i noticed the guy striped the lug nut to the point it is rounded off. i tried putting a smaller socket on it and nothing. is there a way i can take it off or do i have to remove the stud and replace it? if i do have to take it off how would i go about doing it since i've never takeing a wheel stud off before. it's drum brakes on the back.

I had this happen on a dune buggy I had. The tire shop used a die grinder to remove the lug nut and then changed the stud and nut. The shape of your wheels and the room around the lug nut will affect how easy/hard it may be to destroy (remove) it with a die grinder.
you should have seen what i had to go throgh...took we had to use a 3/4 imapct gun...even then it had a hard time gettn the damned thind off.....then we move to the other side and one of the lug nuts are half stripped(back part was still good...thank ***) but it was on there ****-eyed?!! So it was deformed some so be hammered on the impact socket and then tried the gun.....no luck...so we got the breaker bar out and a LONG section of pipe....my father pushed down on the pipe, bouncing it up and down while i beat the **** out of the other end....where the socket attached, with a BFH
.....*** bless the old school mechanics.....it took it off. but yours...don't even try to split it b/c the lug nuts taper into the stud....ummm hopefully you don't have good wheels on there and you can just you a torch....other then that i have no idea.

i once sheared the hex on a couple lug nuts so just the taper was holding the wheel and it was impossible to chisel it. ended up cutting the back of the stud with a torch and pounding the stud w/nut attached out. this was on a blazer though, on the front, i dont know if you can do this on camaro drums or not.
what kind of lug nuts are they? gm used some gay ones that have like a thin outer layer of metal that always rounded, sometimes you can chisel that outer layer off and still have a good enough hex left underneath to put/pound a smaller socket on.

Goto a tire shop. They have a cool little tool that is left-hand threaded in a cone shape. Any good shop will have one. They just pound it on and spin it off. They used the tool to remove my "security" lug nuts after I lost the socket

If it's really tight, the lug nut removal tool won't work. Shield the rest of the wheel and have a shop weld a nut on the existing stripped lug, then remove. Works everytime.
Maybe you can just drill the stud out of the bolt.??Get a small drill bit and work your way up to drill bit thats the size of the bolt. I dont know just an idea but it should work with the right drill bits.

Try this first, since it's the easiest. Tighten the other 4 lug nuts more than you usually would. Then see if you can remove the 5th with a pair of channel locks (big pliers), or vise grips. Was this the last lugnut you tried to remove? Right now it's got a ton of stress on it. Remove the stress by putting the other back on TIGHT, hopefully, this 5th one will come out easy.
