Slight weave in turns
Slight weave in turns
Hey guys,
Wondering if you could give me some advice here. A little background first: I have an '84 Berlinetta LG4. I've replaced the center link, struts and shocks, and the steering box input seal recently. I also welded a crack in the frame rail and installed the extra bracing there as well as a wonder bar. I have little to no play in the wheel bearings and 15" IROC wheels in place of the 14"ers. It was aligned to spec recently also. There doesn't seem to be excessive play in the steering but on on-ramps and anything sharper than a gradual turn the car seems to weave. That is, if I maintain the steering wheel in the same position, the car tightens then widens then tightens in the turn. I also checked the arm in the back that locates the rear end (can't think what it's called right now) and don't seem to have any play there. Can I use the adjuster on the steering box to tune this out or is it something else?
Thanks,
Greg

I have encountered the same problem my car started kinda jerking to the right and I inspected the bushings and front end parts then I noticed that there was a crack in the frame rail and that the frame moves when the wheel is tured all the way out. Did welding and the Wonder bar fix this problem?
Thanks
Thanks
I installed the wonder bar and frame braces first until I could get a friend to weld the frame. That prevented the crack from propagating any more. Then I had the frame welded and replaced the center link at the same time. The difference was amazing. Granted, prior to that the steering was so vague it was like driving a '73 Chrysler Newport (move steering wheel, wait one second, car responds by turning!). But still this weave problem persists. I will try to adjust the steering box tomorrow. Any hints as to how to do this correctly?
