Biggest sway bars available stock?

Does anyone know the biggest sizes, front and rear, that were available on thirdgens? I just pulled a 24MM rear sway bar from an 85 T/A at the junk yard. I am pretty sure this is the biggest size available, but does anyone know for sure? Also, what would be a good size front sway bar to match a 24MM rear with my car? See my sig for car info.

34mm fronts are very good, too, and also more common to locate than the 36ers.

the matched front sway bar to a 24mm rear is a 36, if you get a smaller than 36 front your over/under steering will get goofy. i've heard rumor that there was a 25mm rear available, probably on 1LE cars. even if it does exist, it's near impossible to find one. the same car you pulled the 24mm bar from should have a 36mm bar up front.

I beg to differ. My Iroc came stock with a hollow 34mm bar up front and a solid 24mm out back and my RS came stock with the same hollow 34mm front and a 21mm bar out back. If the 24 was ONLY matched to the 36mm bar, why would GM send out cars with these pair sets?? The 34/24 combo is very common. Most Irocs I've seen have it.

Speaking of Lon and TDS, I got his modified bushings and brackets in today and they look awesome. I took a pic and I'll try to post it tomorrow. Highly recommended!!

Ed its REAL easy to mix up the 23 and 24 bars, i've got both, my Z28 came with 34 / 23 and now I have a 36/24 set......

Modified bushings and brackets ? What exactly are you referring to ???

He's referring to the TDS p/n 200170 1983-92 F-Body Greasable Front Sway Bar Bushing kit. It will be in the new Price List. They are in stock for 32mm, 34mm & 36mm. Briefly: I bead blast, drill & roll-tap stock front sway bar brackets to install a zerk fitting. They are then zinc plated. The Guldstrand Motorsports Poly-graphite bushings are modified by drilling a hole through to the ID, then machining 3 circumferential grooves around the ID for grease to flow. A grease fitting cover is then installed on the zerk to protect it from dirt and debris between lube jobs. I also include zinc plated mounting bolts with the kit. I can e-mail pictures and a copy of the installation instructions to answer any lingering questions. I also have a version TDS p/n 205170 for the 1982 model year F-Bodies. Sorry, no version available for the 1989 TTA, but I can convert them on a custom basis. I also have options available to modify a customers bushings (which is the route Ed chose) or you can buy just the brackets and I can supply instructions on how you can modify your own bushings.

E-mail me if interested: topdownsolutions@yahoo.com.

Here's a pic as promised. I got Lon's brackets and Lon modified my bushings that I already had. I also got a couple packs of the little caps that go on the grease fittings. One pack did all my front grease fittings and one of my rear LCAs. I need more!! These pieces are very well done and the finish is top notch. They almost look as good as ES brackets!!! Kidding....

Seriously, if you want a quality GREASABLE front sway bar bushing set that fits perfect, call on Lon at TDS.

I got all this info from my parts and illustration manual. Those things really help a lot, and if you do a lot of part searching, I would get one...it'll save you a lot of time. Also, look into the CD rom version listed on the home page.

FYI, RPO codes are as follows from the decoder:

F41 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, FRT, RR, FIRM RIDE, HANDLING
FE1 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, S0FT RIDE
FE2 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, RIDE HANDLING
FE3 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, SPORT
Unable to locate code ZK3 in our database!
Z28 : MERCHANDISED PKG, SPECIAL PERFORMANCE

ZK3 is the export model so if you have one, you know who you are. Part numbers follow the descriptions.

Tommy, this is all I could come up with. I'm at work now so I don't have my manuals handy. This is from a post I did a while back. I can't remember what suspension code my Iroc is, but my '91 RS is a F41 car, which corresponds to the 34/21 bars listed. I think my Iroc is a FE2 car, I'll check tomorrow. I know there's 23 mm bars out there, but I'll swear my rear bar is a 24mm. 24mm = 7/8" and that wrench fit real sung on the bar.

Hmm looks like i'll have to see what the wrench does on each when I get home as opposed to the caliper not arguing, just curious as to what all is out there, do you think the 32 solid or the solid BMR bar avail performs any better than the 36 hollow ?

As far as I know, no bar will be better than the hollow 36mm, solid or hollow. Solid bars will only be heavier. I won't be switching mine around like some auto-x or road race guys might so I won't have any comparison testing to report.

From what I've heard from other guys on the board, 36mm is THE bar to have. A lot of guys look for aftermarket bars while the stockers are just as good if not better in the right setup.

i've heard of aftermarket 36mm chromemoly bars that are stiffer than stock 36mm bars, not sure if they're hollow or not
