Here's a GREAT tool for Spring Removal....

Hey guys, I ordered this tool from JCWhitney a couple weeks back... it works perfectly, I just thought I'd share.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/productnoit...=65371&BQ=jcw2

It mounts INSIDE the coil spring, unlike most other spring compressors that mount on the side.

You do know that you can borrow that very same tool from Autozone for free to do the job right? Its exactly the same and its not very pleasant to use.

Todd, from the content of your post you seemed to be explaining that such a tool existed, not that you could buy one. And FYI, when you borrow them from Autozone they charge your credit card as if you bought it so if you don't return it, thats basically what you did.

89formula, true, you don't need a spring compressor to remove the front springs, just have a jack under the a-arm while unbolting the strut then slowly and carefully lower the arm letting the spring drop out. Be very careful, stand to the side and put some kind of towel or rag in front of the spring to keep it from flying uncontrolled out of its perch.

Um.... pianiy, Dude... look at my post, I included a link from WHERE you could buy one.

Anyway, it's a pretty great tool... MOST places usually only sell McPhearons strut coil spring compressors, and a lot of people try to use those and they don't work anywhere near as well.

Also, the floor jack on the control arm trick will NOT work if you have the ENTIRE front end of the car in pieces (IE: core support gone, engine + tranny removed, front left and right fenders removed, and hood removed).

No offense, but there are a lot of crazy *** people on this board. Can't anyone take advice without getting insulted because they ALREADY knew something? On www.NastyZ28.com, people are constantly posting ideas, and new tools to use, and advice on different ways of doing things. If someone ALREADY knows this, they simply don't respond. If they didn't know it, they say THANKS.

Chill out man, I wasn't insulted nor condescending in my reply, but you in turn, were insulted I guess. I was informing that the same tool could be had at Autozone in case you and others didn't know.

When I replaces my front control arms, I needed that tool. There was absolutely no way of getting around using it.

pianiy, nah, I wasn't mad at you.... I wasn't actually even saying it (or writing it) in a mean tone.. I was kinda stating it matter of factly, not you in particular... it's just a trend I noticed on some of the forums on here...
