camber adjustment

hey guys i got somethin for ya....before i came back to ny from michigan i noticed on my passenger front tire the inside is severly worn out..to the point that i cant even see the tread..the worn out area is from the inside shoulder and comes in about 3 inches into the tire...
the driver side isnt as bad but its still noticeable...the tires have over half of the tread ramaining in the center but the insides are worn out....i dont have $$$ for 2 new front tires so my question is there any way i can adjust the camber? it doesnt have to be accurate to gm's specs i just want to knock the top of the tire out a little bit so it starts wearin were it should...when i replace the struts ill get it aligned but for now i just wanna get it so i dont have to worry about the inside shoulder blowin out...
thanks a lot for the responses i hope ill get

Just loosen the 3 nuts on the top of the strut tower, and slide the whole mount out towards the fender.

It's probably not the camber, the tires would have to be visibly knock-kneed to cause that, and it doesn't just jump into some wrong position all by itself or by wear; more likely it's toe. You probably need some steering parts like rod ends and idler arm. Also, bad springs or struts can cause that. Does the car seem like the front end pounds the ground when you go over bumps like pow-pow-pow-pow about 6 or 8 times for a second after you've passed the bump, or does the front end ever bottom out on bumps? Those are signs of badly needing struts in the one case, and springs in the other.

Ya, camber probably isn't your problem. I run mine with the camber almost adjusted all the way negative(around -.5 degree or so) on both sides with no problems with tire wear. Toe is the tire killer. If it's toed out just a little bit, the tires 'fight' each other while driving. Have an alignment done and don't be suprised if you need some additional parts, like the idler arm, centerlink, etc...

i took 4 years of auto technology and i can tell the difference between a toe out problem and a camber problem....witha toe problem the tread edges will be featherd like worn sideways..i need to have it aligned anyway...and it needs struts...the springs are fine....ill have it checked anyway but im almost 100% its not a toe problem...
the tread wear does not indicate a toe problem...the tread is worn on the inside and it gets less owrn as it gets closer to the center of the tire which is a camber indication....

now how do i adjust my camber untill i get $$$ for new struts and can afford a proper alignment

thank you fellas

To have that much of a camber problem, you'd have to be sitting at a noticible -2 1/2* or better. Again, it would be quite noticible especially in relation to the rear camber.

what year and type of car is it? usually to have tire wear on one side of the tire and not much if any on the other side would usually indicate that there is a small amount of - camber and a + toe, however a small amount of - camber is some times better for handling, also late model F cars camber adjustment is supposed to be done using a camber bar (bar that streches or pulls the top of the struts) but can some times be accoplished by loosing the 3 nuts on the strut towers and lifting the front of the car slightly a carpenters level will help with measurments for doing it at home. toe can also be adjusted using a long 2 x 4 (as striaght as possible) putting one along side of the car against the rear tires and adjusting the front as needed I have never done this but have seen people getting there alignment very close using this method,

i also have about 20,000 miles on my front tires and have not rotated them .....my car is a 91 gta and i have not looked down the side of the car to see the realation between camber front and rear....the toe method your reffering to is used in NASCAR after there drives bounces it off the wall and knocks the toe out...they call it "stringin it up" and does get the toe very close...

ill cjeck the toe aswell but like i said im almost positive its not a toe problem...im sure its off a little but the tire wear does not indicate a toe issue....

keep um comin guys

update

ok when my buddy was driving my car and it was coming towards me i noticed that the passenger wheel had severe negative camber...the top of the wheel was in a significant amount...so today i lifted the front of the car up and loosened the 3 bolts and knocked it in pretty far...i had my buddy do it again and the tire was almost strait up and down...with only a very slight lean inon the top of the tire...it also doesnt wander anymore..
