Color me puzzled with this comment. Last I checked you could hold revs up as high as you want with a clutch/stick? But not an auto. I'll assume this was a typo.

spray a 125 shot right off the tree with slicks, and a high stall.

unbolt drivers side swaybar end link. Get some gears. battery in trunk... and yes... 2 ton jack would be easier.
The name of the game is forward... not up.

My front end rises a lot from weight transfer but even I don't hike the front wheels up and I've seen video of my car launching. As nice as it looks, you can run quicker by keeping the wheels on the ground. Lifting the wheels is available energy going in the wrong way.

The easiest way is weight distribution. Third gens are very nose heavy. The more weight you can remove from the front or transfer to the rear, the easier it will be to raise the front end.

The trouble with producing lots of torque to pull the front end up is that you need to get that torque to the ground. Although it's possible, small slicks just don't provide enough traction to easily do it.

Watching a SuperStock car doing it looks easy but they also leave the line at around 7000+ rpm.

Are you sure about Ed Maher pullin wheelies? His car is a mostly stock 305 auto convertable. Headers, custom PROM, and Vigilante Torque convertor. I just can't see that combo doin gettin the front tires off the ground.
