Steering box HELP

I have a question regarding third generation steering box mounting. I was told when i took my car to a guy here in Columbia that it is normal F-body thing to rip the steering box away from the frame. Especially with the high output V-8, does anyone have any information. Is this guy just feedin me a line of or is it true it is costing me 300.00 to get it fixed and not through him

I don't know about the whole "ripping" thing, but the steering boxes to have a habit of cracking. This is why GM put a "wonderbar" on there IROC's. It's basically a metal bar that connects the front part of the frame together to keep it from flexing too much. If you can find an IROC in a junkyard you could put it on your car, or you could just go to Globalwest and get one of theirs. (that's what I did) They call it a steering brace though, and I think it's like $50 or so.

You still need to ge the frame repaired before installing the Steering Brace (aka Wonderbar).

1985-90 IROC's with the 16" rims. Of course they probably won't have rims on them by the time you find them.
